Welcome Annie and Stephy!

Annie, right now, you can head over to our It by Stephen King. We will also be having a team Read-A-Thon in December, so you can keep an eye out for that.

Hi everyone! After stepping away from being active on GR for a few years, I'm ready to get more involved again and get plugged into a few groups/challenges :) I was looking at 2020 challenge options when your group popped up and I've never done anything like this before, so I'm jumping in!

Still trying to figure out the ins and outs of the challenge and will be getting myself situated to join in when the 2020 challenge begins.

Thanks! I'm participating in another groups 2020 library book challenge and have already put most of my TBR list put together, now I need to go though that and see how many books match the weekly prompts here, whew LOL! I only read library books usually, so I'll have to be strategic in making sure I have the right book on hand, for the right week. That will be it's own challenge LOL :)

I'm a library reader as well (although we don't usually have long wait times). You could consider reading the challenge out of order, rather than sticking to it week by week. That would make it a bit more flexible for your library holds. You could also consider doing it in month order (so the first four books, then the next four, etc.). Lots of options over here!

Glad to know there's some flexibility allowed! I'm going to start out by trying to follow the schedule as it is, but we'll see how things go once I get into it :)

Sherri Harris | 1493 comments Hello All. I am new to the ATY challenge. I have know about it for a year because I do Pop Sugar & the BR Read Harder challenge. I have decide to add ATY to my challenges for 2020. I am excited. I average reading 1 book a week sometimes more. My plan is to double triple dip between all challenges & my 2 Face to face book clubs. Should be interesting. My question is if I do the challenge out of order if my book I finished fits any prompt for any month can I use it?

Welcome, I'm brand new to the group too :)

message 709: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina (semisabrina) Hello everyone! I joined the group yesterday because ya girl loves filling out a spreadsheet and 52 weeks of books for all kinds of different categories tickled all my fancies! I've been doing better the second half of this year with getting books started and finished, but I've been out of the good habit for some time. I'm anxious to be involved with a reading group that gives me a little more freedom than x book y month.

I do have one quick question... do we have to choose books off the listopias for the categories or can we choose something else that fits the bill?

message 710: by Sheri (new)

Sheri | 119 comments Welcome Amara!

I don't even look at the listopias most the time, unless I'm truly stumped. They're there if you're having trouble finding something, or you want to see what other people suggest :)

message 711: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
Sherri, you absolutely can read out of order -- in fact, most people do. You can slot in books as you read them.

Amara, you are in the right place -- we love a good spreadsheet over here! Check out our community spreadsheet here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

You can definitely choose any book you want to read for any prompt! Feel free to add your books to the listopias, though, to give other people ideas.

Thanks! I was wondering if that was okay to do.

I am very much looking forward to getting a good list together and making a post for it. After many years of reading (and talking about) mostly fanfiction, I've been quite enjoying getting back to reading and talking about books.

Jasmine (jazzsan) | 2 comments Hey! I'm Jasmine and I got back into reading regularly a couple years ago. I found this challenge group and really liked the idea of weekly prompts to expand and challenge the genres and amount I'm reading. I really look forward to starting the 2020 challenge :)
Thanks!

Alicia (ughleasha) | 2 comments Hey everyone! I'm new here, just found this group on reddit. I spent this morning planning out my 2020 reading list for the challenge and I'm so excited!! It'll definitely push me to read more since I'm at about 34 books for this year right now. I'm big on sci-fi, fantasy, thrillers, and young adult books, but I'm trying to branch out some more.

Sylvia Hayes | 4 comments Hello! I'm Sylvia. I have never done a reading challenge before, and have been looking for a 2020 reading challenge to get excited about. I was too excited to wait so I will do the last 4 weeks in the 2019 challenge too :)

I'm stuck in finals week right now (getting my undergrad in chemistry). Looking forward to the winter holiday, and planning to read a whole lot of Star Wars books.

Stephanie (thelittlebookishnerd) | 87 comments Hi, I'm Stephanie. I started doing a reading challenge every year since 2015. It motivates me to try genres, authors and books I might normally pass up. I'm going to try to do this challenge in 2020 since it's the only one that I can use my physical TBR to fulfill most of it.

message 722: by Susan (new)

Susan | 2 comments Hi- I'm Susan. I've joined you all so that I can finish a challenge. I usually participate in the Seasonal Reading Challenge, I have not ever even come close to finishing. I am still doing the challenges, but will incorporate what I read there with tasks for this group.

Annmarie Hilton | 4 comments Hi everyone,

My name is Ann-Marie and this will be my first year trying this challenge. I am a pretty slow reader so a book a week will be pretty hard, but I want to challenge myself to read more so here I am.

message 732: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments Welcome Annemarie! I managed to get back into reading thanks to this challenge and I know how great it feels to set ambitious goals at the beginning of the year! But after the initial excitement has worn off, don’t forget that reading must remain fun and something you do for pleasure and not by obligation, otherwise you’ll fall off the wagon 😉 You don’t need to finish one book every week and you can go for short books, graphic novels, audiobooks or poetry to lighten up the load a bit! Or choose to read only 20, 30, 40 prompts if you prefer! Have fun and happy reading!

message 733: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Kristick | 874 comments Hi everyone,

I've been a voracious reader since I learned to read, but this is my first year with ATY. Looking over my 2019 reads, I realized that over half of the books were rereads of old favorites. I thought the prompts this group provides would push me to read more new-to-me stuff this year.

message 735: by Joan (new)

Joan (joaniereads) | 8 comments Hi everyone, my name is Joan and I live in Boston. I'm a physician (currently in hematology/oncology fellowship) but love to read whenever I get the chance. I mostly like speculative fiction, but try to read diversely since I love being surprised by a book in a different genre. That's why I actually started this challenge a few years back, since it helped me find books outside my comfort zone.

I've actually been doing this challenge for a few years now, but this year I'm trying to share my challenge with others! Here's my Instagram chronicling my book picks per week, feel free to follow if it at all strikes your fancy!

https://www.instagram.com/joanie.read...

Otherwise excited to count down 2020 with everyone, and if you have a book instagram you'd like me to follow just DM me!

message 736: by Anne (new)

Anne Secher (hermionesecher) Hi, there!!
I'm Anne and I found out about this challenge because of a friend who's participating.
I checked and realised I've actually read the books for the 2 first weeks within the right time. Lucky me!
I live in Colombia and I work as an English teacher and I'm undertaking a major in psychology.
I'm a book addict and hoarder and love to get into as many challenges and readathons I see, as long as they're going to help me engage more with the community and reduce my TBR (currently at 292 books).
I have a reading blog started mid november https://thebookdreamersalley.home.blog/ in case you'd like to have a look.
Please, feel free to ask for any other socials!
Let's have fun!

message 737: by Amani (new)

Amani Hello everyone! My name is Amani and I'm excited to see if I'll be able to find books that fit each of the challenges!
I'm currently living in Italy, but am moving back to the United States in June, so it will be interesting to see whether I can find books at my small local library that fit the prompts. I've been reading mostly Italian books lately, which is one of my goals for this year (I want to get a feel for Italian literature).
I've found that lately I keep starting but not finishing any of the books that I pick up, partially because I've found a new book. I think having a schedule will help me to focus on the books that I currently have and would like to read instead of just finding more new ones. I still consider myself an avid reader, but I have not been reading as much lately. My goal for this group is to actually finish the several books I have started and hopefully discover some new treasures!

Brittany (tinsel hoarding bookdragon) (gamerkiti) | 0 comments Whats up people....I'm back....after nearly 4 years. I was looking for my original post but can't seem to find it; oh well. I'm sure almost none of you around now were here back in 2015 when I and a few people I chatted with a lot were the Mods...but if you were, awesome! If you were here then, and you remember my crazy self, here is an update: I'm in Louisiana now (one of the reasons I left GR was because my life fell apart, but that's a massively long story), I have 5 cats and 3 ferrets. Still lots of tattoos. I still love all things geeky and nerdy (i.e. video games, movies/tv shows, and comic con). I'm also addicted to my nintendo switch and am always looking for more awesome people to play with. I've been on a reading hiatus for the last 1-2 years now because I just couldn't find something I wanted to read. I started many books during this time, but sadly they all got shelved. Anyways, I'm looking forward to getting back into reading and chatting with some awesome people. Hopefully a few of my favorites are still around lurking in here :)

Welcome back! And yay, another ferret mama :) We have 2 ferrets, 1 cat, 2 bearded dragons, 3 birds (Amazon parrot, budgie and a finch) and 1 angora hair rabbit, (there's 2 teenagers and a pre-teen thrown in there somewhere as well LOL). I also took the last couple years off of reading and started getting back into this past fall. Participating in this group has been great motivation to get back into it :)

message 743: by Cheryl A. (new)

Cheryl A. (teddi1961) Hi, y'all! I am Cheryl and my favorite genre is Cozy Mystery. This is the first year I am joining reading challenges so to expand my reading boundaries. I normally read about 200 books a year but this year I bumped my personal goal to 250 books read this year. Last year started fine but lost the ability to read around June due to health issues. My body, mind, and heart is much better now and, with new stronger glasses, I feel I can start a magical new year!

Living in west central Texas makes reading easy. The weather lately has been on the cooler side but most of the year it is just too hot to be outside for very long. Since my Cajun hubby and I are retired, reading comes easy. Usually you will find me on my recliner with a cup of coffee or tea, a good book, and three (rescues) furbabies piled on my lap napping while I read.

Brittany (tinsel hoarding bookdragon) (gamerkiti) | 0 comments Welcome Cheryl! I have to say, I aspire to reach your level of reading! I think the most I've ever read was somewhere between 50-60 books in one year. I also love cozy mysteries, so I have to ask: have you ever read any of the "A Cats in Trouble Mystery" series by Leann Sweeney?

Hey Sophie :) Glad to see you're still around!! I am definitely going to try my best to be around for good this time lmao. And things are much better, I'm in a much better place as far as my mental health goes. No more roommates to fight with (unless my parents start yelling because the ferrets stink haha).
