Carol (goodreadscomcarolann) | 686 comments Just FYI . . . I finally finished so many things (gifts, dresses, tuxedos, etc.) My nephew and his long time girl friend are getting married tomorrow --early in the evening at the Lace Factory in Deep River, CT. We're sleeping at the hotel tomorrow night. All three-hundred are coming, they are a very busy, drinking crowd.

Lesley | 234 comments That sounds like a fabulous big wedding Carol. Enjoy it after all your sewing, input etc.

October was not a great month for reading for me, and November is not much better.

Two star reads; Goodbye, Columbus and Five Short Stories, What Maisie Knew, Falling Man, Shame.

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Mary Poppins and Sons and Lovers were better for me; 3 stars.

I'm now starting to think about my approach to reading in 2016. But that's another subject altogether.

Alias Reader (aliasreader) | 29393 comments Lesley, I've never read Goodbye, Columbus and Five Short Stories. Though I know it was a hit movie. It's on my TBR list. Sorry to hear it's only two stars. I guess I won't rush to read it.

Emma (elpryan) | 105 comments Lackluster October for me, also.

Down the Rabbit Hole: Curious Adventures and Cautionary Tales of a Former Playboy Bunny - 3 stars. Entirely a guilty pleasure read. It's a bit repetitive and written in her style of speaking ("Honestly", it's not literature!), and it's hard to believe she's really the martyr she paints herself, but it's a scandalous tale about the inner workings of an infamous mansion.

Someday, Someday, Maybe - 3 stars. A first novel by Lauren Graham, the actress probably best known as Lorelai from Gilmore Girls (also from Parenthood, which I never watched). Fun and sometimes funny story about Franny Banks, an aspiring actress who has given herself 3 years to "make it" in the industry and has 6 months left on her deadline. Nice story overall, even if the end dropped off a bit.

Lesley, I'm in the same reading boat as you lately.

Somehow, I never realized Mary Poppins was a book, but it was one of my favorite movies growing up. :)

And wow, Carol - hope you had a fabulous time!

It's been hard for me to get into the reading groove, too. I will have to think about this as I make my Determination List for the new year.

Speaking of DL's I hope you all are making one for the new year. Will will post them in December.

For those that are new here. A DL is a list of books, usually around a dozen that you are determined to read in the new year. It can be a specific book or general as in one book on China or a book by an author etc. For more ideas see our DL Folder.

Madrano (madran) | 3137 comments The comment on Mary Poppins had me wondering whether I also read a sequel. I did--Mary Poppins Comes Back. The novelty wore off. There were several in the series, as i recall.
