I read Moby Dick this year and also found it surprisingly funny. I loved it!

I've made another swap! Damn it! I'm not counting these though, it's not the start of the year yet so the challenge hasn't started yet either. I've taken out 1984 and replaced it with The Divine Comedy as I've wanted to read that for a lot longer and I'm finally going to get myself to do it. Plus, I recently found out that there is someone called Francesca in the Inferno part which has made me even more curious to read it.
I'm reading "You're Never Weird on the Internet" too. I'm really looking forward to it!There's aren't a lot of other books we have in common, but I've already read a few of the ones on your list. I hope you enjoy Jurassic Park! It's one of my favourites! VERY different from what happens in the movie, so even if you've seen the film, you'll still be surprised when reading the book.
The year has begun, and luckily so far I'm keeping up the pace. Of course, that's helped by the fact that I took advantage of a slight loophole in the first category and used the book I'm currently reading which I actually started right at the end of last year.
I'm making steady progress already which I'm pleased with. Most of the autobiographies I'm going to listen to as audiobooks (apart from Why Not Me? because I already have a copy of the book) so that should help me to read a couple of books at a time for those as I can listen to those while I'm out and about and then read my physical copies of books while I'm at home. I've decided to leave my Reader's Choice category blank and then I can decide what to fill it with at a later date.
I made a couple of adjustments (I know, I know), in an attempt to add some more books that I actually already own but have yet to read. I've also made the decision that this year will be the year that I will finally tackle 'It'! The funny thing is, I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up loving it but I just get so intimidated by the size of it. It's been sitting on my bookshelf for a good few years, staring at me, though so now's the time to actually do it.
It is big, but definitely worth it (or at least, I remember it being worth it from when I read it back in the dark ages). I do blame it for my clown-fear though!

I definitely blame the movie for my clown-fear! I don't remember not liking them this much before seeing it ;)
Sophie wrote: "I definitely blame the movie for my clown-fear! I may have to take a leaf out of Joey's book and hide it in the fridge, if it comes to it. Luckily, I have avoided watching the film and so the only thing I know from it is the image of him in the sewer but besides that I'll be going into it completely fresh and unaware. I'm looking forward to that.
Well, I'm already making better progress than I did last year as I've already finished two books. I know I'll get my third one finished tomorrow morning on my journey to work, and I'm starting my fourth book tonight. I'm planning to join in on the group read next month, but I'm going to leave the group reads that I participate in as side reads instead of trying to wedge them into my challenge somewhere, otherwise my aim to make as few changes to my plan this year as possible will just completely fail.
No, you can't. It's totally forbidden. If you change one book, the apocalypse will come and we'll never succeed to finish the challenge (as most of my books are ebooks and I can't read them without electricity!).PS: Shame on you for wanting to change your plan. SHAME!
:p
I'm now over halfway through Rats Saw God, nearly halfway through Modern Romance, and I've just started Attachments. So far I'm doing well with my challenge overall, hoping to finish at least Rats Saw God and Modern Romance by the end of this week (I'm including Saturday and Sunday to give myself some more room) and then hopefully Attachments shouldn't take me too long to read, it seems like quite a quick read.

Oh, thank you! I've had a really hard time trying to wedge everything in and I've already made quite a few changes to it. I'm hoping to make slightly less changes overall than I made to my one last year but I won't hold my breath! So far, so good with Attachments. It's certainly a light and easy read, and so far it seems like it's going to be a cute story.
So I did manage to complete my goal of finishing Rats Saw God, but Modern Romance is still on the go. I keep just sticking my music on and getting distracted by it, but I will listen to it the rest of this week on my bus journey's and it shouldn't take me much longer to finish it. Attachments is turning out to be a quick read which I'm pleased about and so I should have that one finished sooner. I'm putting off actually starting Ring until I've finished both of those, as I think it's just a bit too much for me to have three on the go at the same time.
Pleased with my progress so far. I still don't think I'll manage to finish the whole list this year, which I'm fine with, but I think I'm going to do a bit better than last year. I'm already further ahead to where I was this time last year.
I'm pretty sure I'm not going to make it either - I'm still stuck on Middlemarch - but I'm not concerned. :)
Jody wrote: "I'm pretty sure I'm not going to make it either - I'm still stuck on Middlemarch - but I'm not concerned. :)"There are quite a few hefty books on my list which I'm trying to put off for a little while, so I can catch up a bit, but I know once I start those I'll probably drag behind. Oh well!
Finally completed Modern Romance, which makes that 5 books for the challenge completed and 1 group/side read completed. I'm just over halfway through Ring now and I don't think it's going to take me long to finish it, it's proving to be a quick read because it's so gripping.
So I've finished 6 books off my challenge list, 2 side reads, and I should finish Frankenstein by the end of today which will bring me to 9 books so far this year. I'm really pleased with my progress. I'm already so much further along than I was last year!
I just checked it and by this time last year I had only read 3 1/2 books! So I'm beating myself last year already by double the amount. This (hopefully, if I don't now jinx it) is a good sign for the rest of the year.
That's awesome, Francesca! Definitely must feel good to see your progression and improvement from last year. I got behind this month from a trip and being sick and feeling unable to concentrate as much. I'm hoping to pick it back up this coming month.
Congrats Francesca, I hope you had nice reads! Can't wait to read your opinion on your almost-homonym ;)
I want to try and read all 3 Walking Dead compendium's over this year, but I wanted to fit at least one of them into my plan. With a little bit of shuffling the only space I could slot it into was the dystopia which I feel is kind of cheating but then surely a zombie apocalypse does sort of count as a dystopia? I don't know. I'm loophole-ing my way through the challenge and I don't care.
Zombie apocalypse is speculative fiction, as dystopias. Usually, dystopias are focused on the society rather than just characters and survival, but with zombies, societies shrink to small groups and Walking Dead has a high human focus, so you can count the series as dystopia :)

I thought about it after and I did think surely it must count. I think I only doubted it because when I think of dystopia's my mind automatically jumps to the ones like Hunger Games and Blade Runner where it's more sci-fi and high tech. I'm not sure why.
I'm leaving my 'award winning book' and my 'book with a great opening line' categories blank for now. I just can't seem to settle on what books I want to read for each of those at the moment. So I'll fill them in when I get to them.
It's always good to leave a few categories blank. You never know, maybe you're going to really want to read a book that would perfectly fit in one of them ;)
I snuck in another little side read which has brought me up to 13 books. I'm hoping to finish both the books I'm currently reading by the end of this weekend (Saturday I'm very busy but tonight, Sunday, and Monday I'm not doing anything) and that will bring me up to 15 which will make me halfway to my personal goal for this year!I'm hoping to do a fair bit of reading in the next 2 weeks leading up to my holiday as I don't really have anything planned but I'm not too bothered if I don't get a lot done as I'll be spending my entire holiday reading so I should make a lot of progress then!
I fell behind over April/May so I'm planning to try and catch up more this month which I should achieve thanks to my week of reading that's coming up.In May, I only managed to read two books full books and one of them was a short graphic novel and the other was a collection of comic strips! Besides that I finished one book which I started reading in April, and I started and failed to finish two other books before the month ended. Ah, well. Here's to a better reading month!
Ok, my plan for last weekend was to finish my two books and I failed miserably but this weekend I'm determined to do it. My Mum is working both days so she won't be able to distract me and apart from a meal tomorrow night and going to see my Grandad at some point for his birthday on Sunday, I have nothing else planned. So I'm adamant that I will have both books finished by Tuesday (I have Mondays off so that's an extra day for me). I'm also currently re-reading the last few chapters of A Clash of Kings to remind myself of where the book left off and where all the characters were when I last read it so that I can remember as I go into the next book in the series and I won't be massively confused. I don't mind if I don't complete that one by Tuesday, though.
