I hate reading slumps. I've had them after readathons too. I just hope they are short ones when they happen.

message 102: by Michelle (new)

Michelle I fail. Maybe wait for a moderator to respond because I may just be causing more confusion. Sorry.

message 103: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 12196 comments Alright. I'm just slightly confused with how it works.

message 104: by Mehsi (new)

Mehsi Morning everyone! \o How is everyone doing? Is everyone enjoying the readathon?

message 105: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 12196 comments Sure am. Not doing anywhere near as well as I thought, but still not too bad. Only read 1 book, but I read half of another book that didn't count because I started it before the readathon which frustrated me, and today I've read another half of a book that I definitely plan on finishing tomorrow.

message 106: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments I'm in that same spot, Maddison. I really read more like 3 books, but one I had already started but I was barely in to it. I began it the day before the readathon started, so I feel like I read 3 but officially I only read 2. Some members are kicking butt! Congrats to them!!

The most important thing is to have fun and READ what you can and want!

message 107: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 12196 comments Yeah I wish I'd waited one more day, because I'd started my book a day before as well.

Yeahp haha. And even if there was no readathon, I'd still be reading this much so that's good. There's no way I'm even getting close to having as many points as most of these guys though.

I plan on finishing the rest of my current book and another one tomorrow because they're both pretty easy quick reads.

Yay, good to hear you are enjoying the readathon, that is the most important, then followed by reading. Sorry to hear about the reading though, but there is still a few days, so good luck! *cheers*

Mehsi Good luck Vicki! :)

message 112: by Mehsi (new)

Mehsi How is everyone doing today with the readathon?

message 113: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new)

Trisha | 30284 comments Yikes, I feel like I've been reading a lot but only starting books but not finishing books! I"m so excited to finally start finishing some of these books today :)

so far, I've finished two! Cross your fingers for me, I'm trying for at least 1 more before I start more! :)

message 114: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 12196 comments Awesome Trisha :) How's This Monstrous Thing going?

message 115: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new)

Trisha | 30284 comments I'm done :)

how are you liking it?

message 116: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 12196 comments Yeah I'm liking it. Want to get it done today but I doubt that'll happen, seeing as I'm not sure when my friends are coming over for the night.

message 117: by Michelle (new)

Michelle I finished my first book today! I've been busier than I planned to be this week but I am happy I finished one book. I'm about to start reading Cinder.

message 118: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 12196 comments Ah awesome :)

message 119: by Linsey (new)

Linsey I finished reading my first book today! I am planning on finishing Paper Towns by John Green. I had started it a week ago, but then I went to the library to get more books and I kind of put it aside so I could read Nicholas Sparks newest release: See Me, which was very good and very suspenseful.

Mehsi Morning everyone! Seems I missed all the chatting. :(

I am sad that the readathon is almost over, the week went by super fast. I almost reached my goal of 6k pages, so I am really happy and excited.

Good luck to everyone on these last 2 days!

Mehsi Thanks Vicki! I am so happy that I am at 6k pages, I never thought I would reach it.

How are you doing Vicki?

message 125: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments My reading week hasn't gone that well, but life is really hectic for me right now. I have a lot going on since my mother-in-law passed away last Thursday, 10/29. I'm happy I've been able to get in what I have.

When I got back to work my sub had created such a mess! What kind of teacher gives kids a grammar book and says, "Read these pages and do the assignment"? Well, mine did. He told the class he didn't know what adverbs were so read it themselves. Are you serious?! The papers were spread out all over my desk, I had to redo the assignment with them because the students were so lost! Then I stayed after school talking with a parent for an hour because her son got an F in my class. Long story short, she gave her excuses as to why her son doesn't turn in his work: "He doesn't understand," and "He's too shy to ask for help," and "He skipped kindergarten so he's really smart," and then wanted to know if he could come for help the next day after school. Of course, I said yes. I talked with him in class the next day to make sure he had been told and was coming and he said he was. I waited a full hour and he never showed up. THAT is why he has an F. He doesn't do what he is supposed to, including not turn in his work.

So my week hasn't been bad, but it's been super busy. Then on Wednesday my daughter borrowed my car to go to Sacramento (an hour 15 minute drive) and calls me on her way back around 4:45 and said she had a blowout on the freeway and we had just bought a new set of tires in 2014. Anyway it was heavy traffic at that time on a very busy freeway (I-5) and it was starting to get dark so I was on the phone with her while she waited for the roadside service truck to get there (almost an hour) and that basically took my focus off what I thought would be a good night to read. LOL

Aren't you glad you asked? LOL

How's your week been, other than killing a ton of books!!??

message 126: by Mehsi (new)

Mehsi Aww, sorry to hear about your reading week and to hear that your life is so hectic. My condolences to you and your family, that is such sad news. :(

Wait, your sub did what? That is not the way to teach kids how grammar works, you need to show them, help them, give them exercises, not just dump the book in front of them. How does he not know adverbs? Didn't he prepare anything? Poor kids, and poor you that you had to fix all that and were working longer just because of your sub's failure. Bleh, hopefully next time you will get a better sub, one who knows how to work with kids and will help them out.
Wow, at that kid, and also at that parent. :| That is just bleh, hopefully she won't give you more problems. Parents should really be more active about their kids. If that was my kid, and he would haven't made his homework, or not have shown at a time he was supposed to be, I wouldn't be amused/happy, and I definitely wouldn't make up excuses.

Yeah, it sounds like you had a very busy week, filled with all kinds of stuff. Wow, that must have been a scare for your daughter. Alone, on a freeway, when it is getting dark. Lucky that she could call you and talk to you while waiting.
Also, 2014 tires and one just blew up? That is pretty fast, tires should last a bit longer, shouldn't they?

I am glad I asked, thanks for answering (and with such detail). :)

Phew, my week has been busy.
So a few months ago I busted my leg, and I am finally getting back to normal. But with 3/4 months of only basic cleaning (mostly done by my boyfriend), I just wanted to get everything in to order. So I focussed on that this week. Slowly my house is becoming as clean as it was before the accident, and also I am getting back to the schedule I used to do. Though I still have to take it easy as my leg still can't do everything 100%.
On top of that I had several other things to do. And I also started doing some exercise/sport again now that my leg is mostly better again. I really missed dancing and yoga, so I am delighted to be able to do those again.

Add to that that I also had to get my flu shot this week and got a bunch of lovely reactions to it, which caused me to have to take it easy at times or lie down. Not fun, but the flu shot is a necessity I need to have.

So yeah, busy busy, but next week will be a bit quieter.

Trinity Aww Vicki, I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope everything gets much better!

Hopefully next week is a calm week for you and Mehsi. :)

Mehsi, you are doing absolutely amazing with this readathon! How do you manage to read all those pages?! I wish I could read as much as you do. :D

Congrats on marriage Book Kitty! :)

message 130: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments Wow! I didn't know about your accident, but I am glad that your leg is improving and you're doing better now! That kind of thing sure can hold a person down.

It sounds like you have a good man there who is willing to help out and that is really awesome. Not everyone is so lucky but I am with my husband! Thank God he likes to cook because you literally cooks more than I do. LOL

*blushes*Thanks! :) I am still not sure how I managed it all, I am still amazed at the amount. If I had to guess, I would say magic, since that is how it feels for me.

Thanks, I am also really delighted to be able to do stuff again. It wasn't fun at all, even when I could do some more (with crutches) it still hurt a lot, I was tired a lot, and it just held me back so much. :(

Yeah, my man is really fantastic, even when he got home from work, he did what he could to help out in the house, help me with stuff (since I needed help) and so much more. I am really lucky with him, indeed not everyone is lucky, so I am really counting my blessings.
Aww your husband also sounds wonderful, that is great that he likes to cook. And lol, you don't like cooking that much?

message 134: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments I'm just not a good cook at all! My daughter-in-law is a natural! One of my daughters who is a vegetarian cooks really well! She makes spicy chicken soup for me, never tastes it, but it's always really good. Lol She's a natural too. I can make tostadas, tacos, a chicken casserole, meatloaf, good mashed potatoes, a perfect fried or scrambled egg or omelet. Oh, and spaghetti. Other than that if I cook, I must have a recipe and follow it exactly. Lol

message 135: by Mehsi (new)

Mehsi Ah, ok. You can make quite a few recipes (I never heard of tostadas, but I just checked the internet and it looks delicious, I might even try it out). And you can always learn more recipes. :)
It is great that your daughter and daughter-in-law are such great cooks. And that your daughter even trusts her cooking so much to just give it to you without tasting. I always want to do a little taste test myself, just to make sure it is perfect. But, I can imagine to ask a vegetarian to taste test chicken soup won't do. :)

message 136: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments Lol exactly right! Tostadas are yummy! You can make beef, chicken, pork, or just bean and cheese. If you like add hot sauce, add onion, lettuce and tomato. I like my shells crunchy. You can either cook them in oil if you like or you can put them in the oven until they get crispy and not use oil.

Mehsi I am kind of confused though about the readathon. I started (well OK, I didn't start exactly at 5am, since I am not waking up then) 5am on Monday 2nd, so do I finish at 5am on Sunday 8th or Monday the 9th? Since it is a weekathon, and I still need to fill in the 7th day on the Reading List part. Just thought I would ask. :)

So I want to wish everyone good luck with the last bit of the readathon, I hope everyone is enjoying their books, or about to start a great book. :D

See you all tomorrow again. \o
