1) 1) I never bought into Holly and Nick's relationship. It made me think of Speed and Sandra Bullock's quote relationships that start under intense circumstances, they never last. So I felt like this was one of those On the Run, High Adrenaline, Bonnie and Clyde relationships.

2) I know this is silly but Romantic Suspense novels are starting to erode my confidence in government officials---I will leave it at that."

I totally agree with both of these points!

I wish! I do think Holly's job at the CIA ties in to how her dad thought of her and it is designed to be a jab at him. Holly's mom needs to be drop kicked in the pants.

I just finished it, and I don't think so.

I think the author should have led Holly with a mission before introducing that she slept with some of her marks. We all know undercover agents have to do things, but leading off with her as a sex worker for the CIA took away from her expertise as an agent, her expertise in decoding messages etc.

She was just reduced to a sex object in this book and it ruined it for me.

Nick was the most underdeveloped male lead we have had in this series in a long time as well."

I think the emphasis toward the end of the book was that Holly really wasn't trained to do an op, which is why she was kept non-cover and in a position where she had to use her attractiveness as a tool to get close to her targets. I agree, it reduces her to a sex object, which is just as bad as her being clueless or a slut.

I really hated Nick, and I hated Holly for falling for him after his betrayal. That's like staying with your abuser because you can't see your own worth!

Dead by Midnight: An I-Team Christmas is going to be the last book in the series for a while, and I'm not sure I want to read it. This book was like a who's who of the I-Team, and I thought some of of the people she added in didn't need to be added. She also left it in a weird place after the end of Striking Distance, with seeing the daughter all grown up. It was this weird time forward/past thing that confused me quite a bit. I think I'll be rating this one three stars.

I didn't hate Nick because I felt that his CO said Holly was a traitor to the country. Traitors got his fiancee killed. So in Nick's position, I would look at Holly as any terrorist or ISIS type person.

Besides, Nick did what Holly does--use sex to gain access to information. So turn about is fair play.

It just happened that Nick got faulty information and Holly wasn't a bad guy, but for all he knew, she WAS the enemy and deserved no mercy.

The fact that people have sex with someone and then turn murderously cold 5 mins later blows my mind.

I just started Soul Deep (I-Team, #6.5) by Pamela Clare
Can someone remind me how Janet and Jack met? I know it was Striking Distance, but I don't remember anything about either of them?
Thanks

Penni | 996 comments I don't remember either. I haven't read the series in so long and never did get to this one. I thought you had already read this one?

no, they had issues with the audio so they didn't release it until last week. And since it's one of my DB books that you chose, I wanted to get in this month. It's the only audio, so I am making sure I read at least one

Sounds good! At some point I will get back to this and get current on the series.
