The Adventures of Jillian Spectre by Nic Tatano - Starting April 9th 2014

Elizabeth and I are starting this on April 9th if anyone wants to join us.

[Elizabeth]

Read the first chapter so far. My writer brain is like, "Wow, this is super telly," but my reader brain is interested. I mean, two cute boys and a view of the afterlife!

[Amanda]

I will be starting later tonight. I'm reading a book that I expect to finish later today. So I will be a little behind.

[Elizabeth]

No prob. I'm not sure how much I'll get to read tonight.

[Elizabeth]

I'm through chapter 7. The story is interesting, but the way it keeps jumping around is getting on my nerves. I feel like everyone in Jillian's life has a habit of leaving her hanging. And sometimes it's just that the author switched scenes to build "suspense," and sometimes it's that they actually leave her hanging.

[Elizabeth]

Through chapter 12. I'm thinking this book is kind of awful. Started skimming after the swirlie.

[Amanda]

I'm only on chapter 3 and I feel that it's rather juvenile, but therefore a very easy read.

I caught a couple grammatical errors that annoyed the crap out of me. I find it an easy interesting, but not captivating read.

[Elizabeth]

I'm not sure I'm going to finish---not a huge thing in and of itself. I DNF a lot. But I have some stuff for some friends I need to read this weekend.

I'm honestly enjoying this much more than I thought I would. It's very light and enjoyable.

Finished chapter 7 (view spoiler)[I like the whole "paranormal world" concept. I don't really know where this book is going to go, except I know she's going to go looking for her dad. (hide spoiler)]

Finished chapter 20 (view spoiler)[ I feel like the characters are very two dimensional. But I like the story and the world that has been built. But the rest feels like an episode of Scooby Doo or something. Saving the world from danger! Meh... (hide spoiler)]

About 80% in (view spoiler)[I'm just not a fan over all. I feel like the mythology is all cobbled together, and, you're right, the characters are very two dimensional. (hide spoiler)]

Finished chapter 27 (view spoiler)[ And they save the world! Sweet easy read, maybe if I was like.. eleven I'd think it was awesome. But now I need some more substance. Everyone just got into these relationships and now they mean the world to each other. Blah blah blah. (hide spoiler)]

Finished the book (view spoiler)[ Okay there are some seriously annoying morals. So after school special. "We all decided to wait." HAHAH yeah right. Also the whole "technology is ruining the world, making us into zombies.." Blah blah blah. Ugh. (hide spoiler)]

The dated references are also driving me nuts. I saw a review that complained about them, and I see them all over the place. Like, seriously? A detailed Back to the Future joke?

At least it was an easy read.

Finished. The waiting moral didn't bother me nearly as much as the technology isn't REAL communication message

The waiting moral bothered me. It had a lot of potential, I was just let down.
