Saw this title at the library, thought it might be interesting and put it on my library hold list. While waiting for the book to come available, I found myself seeing stuff about this series of books all over the place. What's up with dat, thinks I? Surely this must be a good series. Nay, friend, not so much. Apparently all the hoopla is because every ten to 13 year old girl in the first world wants to be a mermaid. It almost seems the book was written by a 13 year old girl. I found the story to be predictable, sappy, obvious (and not in a good way) and with way too many unexplained things (like how a mermaid can talk underwater and breathe too, when just three minutes ago she was a landlubber). I'll pass on the rest of the series; I recommend you read it only if you want something so light you'll have to hang a drag line on it, while suspending even a modicum of thinking past your gills

Seeing that it was a book aimed for 9-12 year olds, I didn't expect much but I did like the concept. Basically a quick read about mermaids and what not, for me the targeted audience didn't matter; I enjoyed it. :>

Very similar for me. Read it when I was ten, still love it now. I'm 23.
