Erika Still reading but almost done!!

Thelma It seems a lot, and I mean A LOT, of people like this book. I am not one of them; read this book last year and posted a two-star review of it, as follows:

Saw this title at the library, thought it might be interesting and put it on my library hold list. While waiting for the book to come available, I found myself seeing stuff about this series of books all over the place. What's up with dat, thinks I? Surely this must be a good series. Nay, friend, not so much. Apparently all the hoopla is because every ten to 13 year old girl in the first world wants to be a mermaid. It almost seems the book was written by a 13 year old girl. I found the story to be predictable, sappy, obvious (and not in a good way) and with way too many unexplained things (like how a mermaid can talk underwater and breathe too, when just three minutes ago she was a landlubber). I'll pass on the rest of the series; I recommend you read it only if you want something so light you'll have to hang a drag line on it, while suspending even a modicum of thinking past your gills

Erika i love this book!!

Stenedria I thought it was great but not the best book ever. It all depends if you like the subject of mermaids or the age you were at the time you read the book.

Enyoung Read it, liked it.

Seeing that it was a book aimed for 9-12 year olds, I didn't expect much but I did like the concept. Basically a quick read about mermaids and what not, for me the targeted audience didn't matter; I enjoyed it. :>

Xsnowhite1012X I read it when I was much, much younger, and I liked it. It'd never been one of my favourites, though. I agree with the following statement...

Elizabeth Rund This is a great book for a 12 year old. I read it when i was around that age and really enjoyed it. I tried to reread it recently but couldn't get over its cheesiness and the barely mediocre way in which it was written.

Ami E. Bowen I'm reading it right now as a sort of mental palate cleanser after a slightly emotionally heavier book series I read beforehand. I always like to dive into something light after a more serious read to clear my head and vise versa. I think it's cute, sweet and the scenes flow nicely from one exciting or interesting thing to another which is perfect for it's target audience as younger people tend to have shorter attention spans. I'm thinking of adding this book, (and the rest in the series), to a list of books I'm compiling to get for my little niece when she becomes old enough to read and start enjoying it. She comes from a family of avid readers as her mother, Aunt and great-grandmother are all very much always-reading bookworms so we are hoping that particular "gene" was passed on and it never hurts to help it along a little!

Holly This book is great! The first book is always the best. Every chapter, you just have to keep reading; It's a hard book to put down. I read this book when I was almost 10 years old. Great for kids who love undersea-adventures.
