Thomas (thomasathogglestock) | 251 comments Before you all start telling us about your changing reading tastes, I must say I think at one point when discussing In the Garden of Beast's I said "Hitler's Britain" I should have said "Hitler's Berlin". Sheesh.

Janis | 8 comments I definitely find my taste in books changing with the years (I've been reading some 60 years). When young I enjoyed science fiction and adventure. Later I was more into mysteries and non-fiction. Thought I still read some science fiction and mysteries, I find I like literary fiction and general fiction, not just a particular genre. I may read some non-fiction too but not as much.

I used to read primarily escapist fiction until the late eighties, when I read The Lifetime Reading Plan by Clifton Fadiman . It changed my reading life. After reading about 1/3 of the entries in that book, my horizons were expanded greatly, and I found that I could read, enjoy, and comprehend any book short of an arcane scientific text.

Now I usually get bored unless I'm reading something informative, or literary fiction that requires some effort from the reader. Simple linear storytelling doesn't often do the trick any more.

Lacy (kempfme) I have recently realized that I have just gone through a change in my taste of reading. 4 or 5 years ago I used to primarily read romance and thrillers. Now I read more YA Dystopian, Paranormal or Suspense.

Elizabeth☮ I think my tastes change according to what is happening in my daily life. I read the same type of books, but may read something a little less heavy if I am going through a personal trial.

In high school, I read many of the classics that weren't required reading. My reading choices were largely influenced by my older brother and I wanted to impress him with what I knew (still do). He have me a large base of reading from which to work.

Now I read based on my mood. And I can be capricious.

Valerie Just catching up on episodes and could so identify with Simon on changing reading tastes. Yes, absolutely I have less patience with the "90 pages to get to the market" type of read as well as reading more non-fiction. Not sure why but definitely, yes.

Esther (eshchory) | 135 comments As a pre-teen I could never find enough to read so I read everything frequently more than once.
Now I have almost no time to read and have little patience for bad writing. I'm also not a great fan of romance or paranormal romance or literary fiction that is try so hard to be literary it forgets about plot or story-telling and the characters are created from a collection of quirks.
