Sedit So,after reading Divergent out of a moment of "i don't know what to read i'm gonna try this" ,i was completly thrilled, wow another jewel found in the dirt, when Insurgent came along, that even thrilled me more,i ended up completly crazy about the wits of this girl that started as a wallflower and now was a complete heroine, acompanied with this amazing guy who was completing her and the story flawlessl.
Allegiant was so expected and when i got my hands on it i started reading as if there was no tomorrow,i started finding myself slowing down more and more in my reading pace, until at mid book i realized clearly how the book was going to end, with a big push from my part i completed my task and read the book and i was completly crushed, and amazed at same time, since i realized that i had discovered the perfect way of how destroy what could had been the new Hunger Games, gratz Veronica Roth.

Ilana i think that there's such a mixed bag of opinions on this one. while i'm really happy that it wasn't fully expected to happen in the way that it did - i think that i would have been happy with things turning out differently. Ms Roth has a great imagination though to take the story where it did - after learning so much about where everyone came from and what folks were trying to do to the population inside the walls.

I'm still upset though about the ending - i think that i was so invested in certain story lines that when they didn't conclude as my mind wanted them to, i was bummed out a bit.

I totally agree ! you just don't end a trilogy like that, I loved all the other books but I can't read them now because of the ending in the third book ! Many people thought it was great but I don't see it

MommyDearest You're thread title really made me lol. I totally agree. Allegiant was so disappointing for me, the whole book, not just the death.

Eleanor Rigby I thought that this series just went downhill honestly. Divergent was great, Insurgent was a mediocre sequel, and I thought that Allegiant was a weak and disappointing end to the trilogy.

Marisa I really enjoyed Divergent, Insurgent was meh, but Allegiant was bloody awful. It was slow-paced and boring for the most part. It was like VR was dictating at us instead of allowing us to figure things out for ourselves. (view spoiler) There are plenty of ways the VR could have taken this ending and she failed.

Sedit My question is,as is it scheduled to make the Allegiant movie, and counting on the dissastrous reviews the book is getting, are they really going to risk it?
I ain't seeing the movies as i planned, that nonsensical ending ruined it for me...so bummed.

☽Ƹɱɱɑ☾ True, it did ruin the series. I'd be okay with killing off the main character if it were a stand-alone novel, but a series? Nuh-uh. This was my favourite series. Now? Not so much.

Completly agree.

Melissa Tris's death didn't ruin it for me. I actually didn't mind that she died. However, I still wish I could unread the book. The dual point of view was difficult for me to follow because Tris and Tobias' voices weren't very different. It was hard to tell who was telling the story at any given time. I wish she would have stuck with Tris telling the story in first person then maybe changed the point of view once she died or something like that.

bubblegumpopper I echo your sentiments. I was completely obsessed with this series last week and devoured all 3 over the course of the 5 days (would have been 2 days if I didn't have to go to work...stupid job.) However the 3rd one left a sour taste in my mouth. It felt sadistic. I didn't want her to end the story where she did, but the WHY of it is I think what really kills me. If Tris had been saving Four, or Christina, I would have been sad, but I could have gotten behind the sacrifice. But CALEB?!?! Literally ANYONE would have been a better goal for altruism. Hell, even Peter would have been better (he at least showed some redeeming qualities and wanted to change by the end of book 3.) Caleb was still just an arrogant prick. And a coward. Not worth the sacrifice.

Marisa I can't see many people supporting Allegiant when it comes to theaters but Insurgent will be a success either way. Allegiant the book is tanking because of its generally boring plot and character issues. Tris' death should never have occurred. I don't know how the company published it with that ending.

Agreed, partially. Divergent and Insurgent I finished in a day. When it came for Allegiant, I had already gotten a few spoilers, so I knew it wasn't as favored.
When I picked it up, I was enthralled by about the first third. When the genetics came in, I started to get a bit lost. I was shocked at the meaning of Divergence. I agree completely about Caleb. I do, however, think it was alright that Tris died. So many stories are happily ever after. I might have wanted a few things to be better, and in the middle it was a bit slow, but hey, not everything can be action.

I tend to disagree. So many endings are The monster came out and the young hero/heroine raced into the danger. Moments from death, he/she was saved by _____ ect.

While I agree that it was a smidge boring and I favored Tris over Tobias, it was necessary for Tris to die. Tobias had family matters to settle, and while the deaths of Tori and Uriah were quite sad, they weren't sob-alone-for-days-sad, as Tris's death was for many.

Completely agree!!! That totally ruined it for me. I had a hard time telling the two apart and he was coming off so feminine and emotional.. It was just wrong.. why would you change the writing style in the third book or a series!!!!! In a stand alone sure.. it might have worked.. but not here! So frustrating.. I wanted to stop reading.. it was also very repetitive in the story line.. one corrupt side against another.. it was just disappointing all the way around! :(

bubblegumpopper The other thing that has struck me as I ponder this third book is the fact that she basically negated the whole premise of the first two books. The whole reason for the Chicago experiment is to foster genetic purity, as evidenced by divergent individuals forming. And yet, the Department overseeing the experiment has done nothing to stop the Erudite plans to hunt down and kill divergents. They've managed to save a few like George and Amar, but that only reinforces the fact that the storyline is incongruent. If they have access to the city (to get people out) why didn't they just send someone in (like they did with Tris' mother to either eliminate the Erudite leaders or wipe their memories and implant new ones. It would have solved the problem at the root, thus preventing the whole plot of book 1 (and subsequently 2) from occurring.

Exactly. That's why I am at a loss as to how in the world they are going to adapt this book into a movie. It's not the ending that ruins the series; it's the entire book. The plot in this book completely threw away the premise of the entire series. Roth twisted and retconned herself into a completely different story; it just doesn't fit.

chinami initially i was extremely sad that Tris died and angry she should not have died that way. now i don't bother at all. just came out of allegiant rehab, don't want to go back there.

Rachel Paige Hamlin When I was reading it, I felt like Roth had tons of ideas and instead if weeding out the bad ones, just stuffed them all in together. It was very annoying.
