@Mary I think that's what mostly gets to me about it. Nothing happens and he spends his whole time trying subvert tropes in subplots instead of having a central plot. Like it reads like a R rated Medieval Fantasy Soap Opera with the characters being about as realistic.

I agree with every point by Mary and Micah. Those are the reasons I've never been into aSoIaF. I'll read the rest, but I probably won't love them.
