I can remember trying to make the spreadsheets from TT2 work when I (maybe foolishly) volunteered to be a co-captain - that was brain teasing enough

Will have to work out how we can commemorate her effort without space travel

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3799 comments Does anyone see any BOM they want to write DQs for? I signed up for Six of Crows, but Pretty Girls also looks interesting and I could volunteer for that too! (I think there may be some competition for who gets to write questions during the challenge)

I'm still waiting for Pretty Girls at the library!

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3799 comments Me too Stacie! There are 59 holds in front of me, but hopefully they have a ton of copies and I can get it before Nov 12th!

I had no idea how popular this book was because I've never read anything else by her before, but it sounds really good.

Trying to debate whether I should put the audiobook on hold too just in case or whether the book will be too creepy to listen to.

Most tempted by Pretty Girls for Nov. I've never volunteered for BOM questions and I'm not sure I'd manage to write them at the right time/ remember what I was thinking while I'm reading long enough etc.

RebeccaS - same I haven't tried one of hers before. Will be interesting to see how it goes

message 56: by Eni (new)

Eni | 2349 comments Just checking in on everything. My little one's been sick so i haven't been here a lot. Nothing major, she just been really cranky.

Cathy i'll really miss you this game :( *hugs* gluck =D

Don't forget BOMs count for DQs and/or participating, so don't forget to check them out and sign up for them if you think the book is interesting enough =)

message 57: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3799 comments The books for November look awesome! I signed up for 2 of them that start after Nov 7th.

I can't wait for this challenge to start!!

message 58: by Anita Reads (new)

Anita Reads | 1677 comments I don't plan to read any of the BOM yet. Six of Crows because, I've only read the first book of the Grisha, and it's supposedly a spin off?

I'll try and contribute points another way.

Poor little one. Hope she recovers soon so you have less cranky to deal with (no promises it won't end up cranky once we start though)

Nicole B | 185 comments I'm just going to go Hi :) looking forward to the challenge, sorry for not checking in sooner but only just found page ^^

Will bear in mind that contributing adds to points!

I'd like to get to know you all a bit better before we start on the challenge - I'm nosy about people, and what they enjoy (both in terms of reading and other activities).

I'm a junior dr, living with my dad about an hour outside London while my fiance is working in New York for a few months.
I'll read almost anything, though am taking a break from YA for a while and won't read horror. I enjoy fantasy, romance, crime etc. My favourite books (that really stick with me) are probably Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts and the Outlander series which starts with Cross Stitch (also known as Outlander). I'll read physical books, ebooks, audiobooks or on my phone depending where I am and whats available!
Other than reading I knit, bake and sleep!

message 62: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Mmmm sleep!

I'm a licensed therapist in the US. I work as an Employee Assistance Counselor at the Pentagon and I am currently pursuing a Human Resources degree because I'm insane. I live right outside of DC with my husband and our four cats.

Romance is my most read/favorite genre. I read almost anything as well. Western is not my thing. Historical Fiction and I get along rarely but it does happen. Horror I can only read during the day, otherwise I have very very messed up dreams!

Outside of reading, I don't have much more. I do love to color. It's great relaxation! And I've been known to play video games.

Anita Reads | 1677 comments I actually just got a resignation from my current job a few weeks ago :(
It's a pretty strange situation to be in, as I've never really been without a job. I was hired in a Holding Company that owned these 2 furniture stores in Spain, where we're selling Scandinavian inspired furniture. Last year though, the owner and the one who started it all, sadly passed away due to cancer, and he left the company to his kids and wife. They didn't have the same desire to continue with the company, so they decided to sell it, which leave me in this position. Although even if the new owners wanted me to work for them I'd probably say no. At least the one I've spoken to seem like a tool, really. My position there was as a Administrative Assistant, so I'm doing my work from Denmark. I'll still be working there a couple of hours a day, helping out with the transition, but in a matter of a few weeks, I will have the rest of my resignation period (which is 3 months) free. Hopefully I'll find something new soon, would be awesome with double salary over Christmas.

As for reading genres, my favorite is Urban Fantasy and PNR, but I do enjoy a good mystery, Contempory romance or chick-lit as well. I Check out almost every genre, but I rarely read non-fiction. I don't know why, but it doesn't really interest me much. It's difficult for me to choose 1 favorite book though.

Apart from reading, I love watching sports. Mostly football (soccer), handball, Tennis, and badminton, but also other sports. I also love spending time with my family. I also love to cross stitch. It's very relaxing, and probably one of the only creative things I know how to do.

I read the first 2 books in the Outlander series, and I enjoyed them both. Although they're really long, and sometimes a little slow paced, but mostly and all around enjoyable read.

That sounds like a real interesting job and set of skills! I hope the degree is engaging at least. I tend to find that type of insanity really pleasing when it's successful.

I loved DC when I visited a few weeks ago, just wish I'd managed to get out of the city and into the surrounding area. Having said that seeing Boston, New York and DC in a 2 week span was effort enough.

Colouring is good - just got my first 'adult' colouring book for my birthday and have found it surprisingly time consuming.

Oh video games. Forgot to mention, I LOVE playing Mariokart on my Wii, and also Super Mario Brothers, but we finished all levels there.

Anita - I'm sorry to here about that, much be quite a shock to having that free time. Hope you manage to find something suitably awesome as a new opportunity! Hopefully the additional time will give you chance to spend more time with family (and read whatever you want).

I swing in and out of enjoyment with UF and PNR. Have found a couple of series that have really grabbed me, but not the level of other people I know. Have you got any recommendations?

message 67: by Anita Reads (last edited Oct 22, 2015 01:12PM) (new)

Anita Reads | 1677 comments I take this as the opportunity, to find the job I really want this time. Last I got a job, because it was there, and I could do it until I found something more related to my education. I'd love a position in either purchasing, or something to do with webshop development. I've been doing some of the things at my current job, but not nearly enough as I wanted. I'm also hoping to find a job where I can get a few more colleagues to talk to daily. Since out stores are in Spain, most of my coworkers are positioned in spain except me an my boss. My boss has been resigned as well, and doesn't have any more to do, so now it's only me at the office. Pretty boring really. Makes me spend too much time surfing the Internet.

Hmm. Well I'm currently loving the 'Night Huntress' series as well as it's spin off series. Other than that I love Mercy Thompson. Mercy is to me the perfect kind of heroine. Thinking her actions through most of the time, before doing it, and I love her love interest Adam. Other than that I've enjoyed Sookie Stackhouse, they're easy and quick reads. I could go on with more series, but these were the first that popped into my mind.

message 68: by Nicole B (new)

Nicole B | 185 comments I love Mercy Thompson too :) though I can't say much about Sookie Stackhouse, she annoys me but I enjoy the stories and the other character so keep reading them lol.

I'm a university student in England. I'm in my final year studying Business management and Japanese and as such find myself either with too much to do or too little. My favourite genre is Fantasy. Basically if it has magic, i'll read it lol. I also have a soft spot for dragons.

I hope you find a job better suited to you this time Anita. Too much time surfing the net is always bad.

message 69: by Anita Reads (new)

Anita Reads | 1677 comments About the Sookie Stackhouse books. I'll say that I loved them a lot more in the beginning. I still enjoy them, but not as much as the first 3-4 books.

I also enjoy the Elemental Assassin series by Jennifer Estep. I forgot to mention that before. Gin Blanco is growing on me.

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments I have the best job at my library combining my love of math and reading. I run circulation statistics and work the front desk with the public. I get to see all the new books coming in and recommend them to some people.

My main genres of reading are Mystery and Romance, but I will try anything. Some of my favorite authors are Kristin Hannah, Camilla Lackberg, Nalini Singh, J A Jance, James Patterson, Brenda Novak, Kristen Ashley, Susan Mallery, Mercedes Lackey.

Outside of reading, I knit, crochet and cross stitch. I also love puzzles and board games.

message 71: by Anita Reads (new)

Anita Reads | 1677 comments Actually. My mom said she could see me as a librarian, or working somehow with books. I'm not saying I won't apply if a position like that is posted, but I don't really have a librarian education or anything, so I don't know if I'd even be considered. Also my local library, doesn't have the best selection in books.

I'd love to work for a book webshop or something that would be awesome.

Working with books would be good, but only if I had time to enjoy them.

Thanks for the recs - have heard a bit about Mercy Thompson before so might be time to take the plunge.

I'll give it a go! Also works for a challenge I'm doing in another group that requires a lot of series books!

I thought it was a Danish book for a while, as Elsker is the Danish word for 'Love'. Funny.

It sounds really great. So I went and downloaded into my Kindle.

When I'm running tests there is a lot of in between down time where I can listen to audiobooks which makes the day go by so much faster! I love fiction, HF, mystery, some fantasy and YA, and do some times branch out into other genres. Also I'm not a fan of this cold weather!!

I'm so excited to starts TT!

Going through a rough patch, which has lead to the tough choice that I can't work at the moment. Weekend involved a lot of soul searching to try to work out what the best thing to do would be. Has the upside that I'll be reading more than I would otherwise be though!

Sounds like people have an interesting mix of things to fill their time. Audios and books at work sounds dreamy to me.

message 82: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Sophie, that's a tough decision. It's never easy making those adult decisions. Let's go swing on the swings and forget adulting for a while.

Yep. Not the most enjoyable task. I got stuck with cemetery cleaning a few times in the past... then my parents got together and since grandma's birthday was on the 1st, the living had priority.

Now the tradition is lost - fortunately - the state also *stole* that holiday from us, which helped.

message 99: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9625 comments Hm, I think I didn't introduced myself.

Hello, I'm Tea from Croatia. I work as admin for non profit organization. Actually I do whatever needs to be done, but this is easy explanation :P My boss' latest project (going for 2 years now) takes me away from civilization every 2 months (so yes, I'll disappear at the beginning of December for about 10 days - please bug Sonia during that time :P)

I'm moody reader and lately have couple of books going at the same time - one on reader, one on tablet (they are not in sync :P) and maybe audio if I'm spending too much time on GR. I'll read mostly anything, except S.King-type horrors (no way!), non-fiction (if I can help it) and there'll probably be lot of grumbling if I'm reading YA or NA :) Lately, mostly I'm reading m/m

Before I started joining so many challenges, I liked movies, puzzles and jigsaw, not to mention board games or something on computer. Now I'm mostly reading (since I can't seem to make my challenges to play nicely together, and i don't plan my reading, I end up needing/reading different books for different challenges *sigh*)

message 100: by Anita Reads (new)

Anita Reads | 1677 comments Tea, I'm in the same boat as well. I'm so far behind on all of my TV series that I've been watching, because I have to focus on all these reading challenges!

Maybe I'll manage to catch up on some of them soon.
