Top shelves are the most popular shelves people books on. If you are on the Goodread page for a book, go to the right hand side.
You'll see a list of genres, at the bottom of the list of genres for the book, you'll see a link to 'top shelves'. If 21st century is listed on the first page, it meets the goal.

That's great news Caroline! :)
BTW I haven't read the book, but I've watched the movie. It was very nice.

GOAL UPDATE:
- Read a book whose author died 2-5 years ago
- Read a book where a character dies of natural causes
- Read a book with a briefcase on the cover
- Read a book shelved (listed on the first page of the "top shelves" of the book) as 21st-century - plurals and minor spelling variations are acceptable
- Read a book that has a hero or heroine that does something “dumb”

I didn't know it was a movie but the book was really good! Pretty sad though

Used Ink and Bone (read by Shy) for new goal: "Read a book with a conjunction in the title"
New goal: Read a book shelved (listed on the first page of the "top shelves" of the book) as next-up - plurals and minor spelling variations are acceptable
I'll check if one of the read books fit the goal later. Gotta go and have some breakfast first. ;)

Thanks for the tip Andrea. I used your book for task related to predicting the future in mini challenge. :) And with that, we have one more world complete.

Explanation:MC get a medicine and is warned to take only one drop because it's very dangerous. She drink more on several occasions, regardless to the consequences (dumb IMHO) + she's in love with serial killer and thinks she can cure him

- Read a book that won or was nominated in the 2012 Goodreads Choice Awards (https://www.goodreads.com/choiceaward...)

What do you think, can it work?
Maybe, but I think we'd need confirmation from the mods.
I posted a question to mods to get a ruling.

@Andrea: Great Andrea! I hope you are enjoying it. I remember it was super hot and the best in the series.

i'm still on with Modern Romance and The Axeman's Jazz. i'm nearly finished modern romance and about quarter ish into axemans jazz.
i don't have anything planned for after these. i keep picking up books and barely getting through the first page :(

Mods gave the thumbs up so I checked off the goal.
New goal:
Read a book whose author has more than 2 pen names
did a very quick search found 2 popular authors with multiple pen names:
Anne Rice
Dean Koontz
There is likely a lot more

Something like Jayne Ann Krentz who also writes as Jayne Castle, Amanda Quick, Stephanie James, Jayne Bentley, Jayne Taylor, Amanda Glass...
ETA I dug around and found out that JD Robb aka Nora Roberts also wrote as Jill March and Sarah Hardesty. And Imke read a book by her. That goal is going down! ;)

Nice! I was hoping Nora Roberts had an additional pen name since we had Imke's book looking for a goal. I just didn't have time to check.

I love a good makeover story. What do you think could Earls Just Want to Have Fun work?
Hero teaches heroine (who is poor) how to act as a member of the ton. I saw this book on 'Pygmalion in Historical Romance' list and I grabbed it when it was a freebie...
I think so, it almost sounds like a retelling of Eliza Doolittle/My Fair Lady.
And I'd say that's a classic makeover story.

Had a few glasses of wine last night and completely overlooked the "more than..." whoops, sorry! Glad Nora Roberts worked though.

that's a good one I read it a month or so ago!

@Zee: No matter you helped, reminding us. I always forget that Nora Roberts and JD Robb are the same person, because she writes so many books. :)

New goal: Read a book where a character gets into shape
Boo Imke :( We weren't selected to write DQ's for Six of Crows. Better luck next time I suppose!

I've read a couple books that fits this but unfortunately it was more recent than six months ago. But I thought I'd post them here in case they struck someone's fancy.
This is part of the Neighbors from Hell series. Which I found to be a ridiculous and fun to read series.
I actually didn't really care for this book. But a lot of others seemed to like it and it certainly fits the goal.

Do you guys think that is a briefcase or a purse?
I'm having a hard time finding a book with a briefcase on the cover. At least a hard time than I was expecting.

It looks like a purse, but also suitcases...I have not been able to find a book with a briefcase either :/. I typed in Google books with briefcases on the cover and it gave me a bunch of books with suitcases on them... so maybe a suitcase will work for a briefcase? They do almost look the same.

Looks like a pile of suitcase and a purse to me too.
I can't believe briefcase covers are so hard to find. :/ I found only one after hours of searching on Goodreads. It's Nerd Girl but I do not like how it sounds so I don't want really to spend my money on it, just to complete the goal.

Loki has same goal *sigh*
I posted on the mod thread to see if anyone has completed the goal before and has some recommendations.
I agree with you completely though, there are too many good books out there to read something you aren't interested in to check off a 5 point goal

(pickpocket Marlowe is transformed into a lady)
Used Bloodlines read by Wren for (new) goal: "Read a book that is in the "The Best Urban Fantasy" Listopia List"
(#48 on it)
Used Sea of Stars (read by Judith) for (new) goal: "Read a book shelved (listed on the first page of the "top shelves" of the book) as coming-of-age - plurals and minor spelling variations are acceptable"
(6 people tagged it)
Used A Court of Thorns and Roses (read by Wren) for (new) goal: "Read a book where MCs hate each other at the beginning"
(she hates him because he is fae, he hates her because she killed his friend)
Used Hemlock read by Wren for (new) goal: "Read a book that is in the "The Best Urban Fantasy" Listopia List"
(#2203 on it)
And the NEW new new new goal is: Read a book where the book title is also a song title

Yeah. Maybe some of the goalless books can work for new goal, but I am too tired to google and check. I'll check later if you or Imke don't beat me to it.
I'll take care of checking through them. I'm off today and avoiding running errands :)
And I'll read The Partner by Grisham for the briefcase goal.

Also I thought I was supposed to have some goal points that aren't showing up on the list.

Thanks for the catch, we forgot to type your last name on the Goal list. Names have to match exactly. We had the same issue with my name and goals too. It's fixed now :)

If it's easier for you, you can change name to just name. Just be careful it's same on all sheets
Used From This Moment On read by Dragana for the song title goal. Shania Twain had a song titled that.
Used Unlucky 13 read by Sonya for the goal "book with more than 1,000 GR reviews"
Used Abandon read by Wren for the goal "white or silver dress on cover"

Haha, it does. But I know what you mean.
In my head you are down for that goal for your Tom Clancy read, but we can't check it off until the book is finished.
