Cool! You gave me the perfect excuse to overindulge. It's hard to resist when so many great books show up on the goodies thread.

Unless if, like me, you just *mumbles* never stopped buying them in the first place.

*sigh* I look at it this way, I could be buying crack, so books? Not so bad.

That's my philosophy. I'm not investing in something legally or morally questionable. So really? What's the problem.

@Lila, cool. It works for me every time. Hubby gets annoyed if he thinks I'm impulse shopping and I just tell him 'but it was on my list' he's resigned himself to the fact that the list is ongoing and he was the one that told me if it wasn't an impulse purchase I would have had it on a list so now, I always have a list.

That's a very good way to justify it. I tell myself as long as I'm paying my bills & feeding the cat, it's not hurting anyone. I'm not married, my kid's in college & (hopefully) after the 1st of the year he'll get his financial aid straightened back out & he'll be able to work more hours after he's recovered from his surgery so my parents & I won't be paying his bills anymore and I can go back to spending my money on myself.

❀~Amy~❀ (ajpayne75) | 153 comments So quick question. What other places are there to get ebooks on monday besides ARe and Amazon? Those are the only 2 I ever shop at. I know about B&N but don't like the Nook app. Any help would be great.

message 120: by Meep (new)

Meep I'm in the UK and only place I can gift from is ARe
(if there are any others jump in and say ;) )

Not many places seem to allow gifting.

K (k-polipetl) | 86 comments Definitely try the publishers sites direct - I know Dreamspinner are doing a 35% off sale right now - as well as 3 freebies a day till Monday (plus 2 from their YA range and 1 from the DSP range).... Samhain also have a discount sale today as well.

Dreamspinner is worth a look they have some good deals; right now it's 35% of everything with 3xtitles free every day, there's weekly 99p books too.

They did the same type of sale last year on Black Friday that they've got going on now so I'm going to have faith that Monday will hold true to form as well. I know they didn't promo it much I think something went out late Sunday and/or first thing on Monday but that was it. I'm in the same boat I've been holding off doing my SS thing and I have a rather lengthy list of books for me but I'm going to have faith that they won't let us down. *crosses fingers just to be on the safe side*.

I know. I'm usually off my computer by noon and I may take 10 or 15 minutes at the end of the day to check e-mails and stuff but at this time of year. I feel like I've accomplished something if I leave it long enough to cook supper.

Honestly I can't guarantee but I will be really, really surprised if they don't. I know they don't do a lot of promo on it probably to keep the sales reasonable. But given that it's not the only time they do their 50% rebate sale and they did one I think back around the Labour Day holiday I'm gonna' have faith.

I've made good use of past 50% rebate sales so I'm pretty sure this one is going to happen too.
And I have to be completely honest here. No sale doesn't mean no book shopping for me. It just means I'll pay more for the ones I do buy. I'm a book buying addict...to my detriment at times. ;-)

message 142: by ❀~Amy~❀ (new)

❀~Amy~❀ (ajpayne75) | 153 comments And sometimes being impatient pays off. There was a book on my wishlist that I decided I just couldn't wait to buy anymore so I was going to go pay full price for it. When I got to Amazon I found that it is on sale today for $1.65...less than half price. Can't beat that!! =D

Agreed I'll be buying books come Monday regardless all it means is that once I get my SS stuff done because I already have that all mapped out. Then I'll proceed to buying for me and I may not buy as much and I'll be really picky about which books I get this time but books will be bought.

Cool on the book, I'm waiting for Monday but I still shop around too. I got a book that I've been wanting over at Dreamspinner Press the other day for 99 cents and it's normally $6.99 so there was no way I was passing that up.

message 144: by ❀~Amy~❀ (new)

❀~Amy~❀ (ajpayne75) | 153 comments I love the 99 cent sales every weekend at Dreamspinner. I really hate it when life gets in the way and I forget to check what's there.

My big issue right now is trying to decide what books on my wishlist I can safely buy myself on Monday and what I need to leave for my SS. The books on there are the ones I really, really want and I don't want to miss the sale if it happens waiting to see what is gifted to me. *sigh* I might just have to overhaul my wishlist tonight and remove the ones that I know without a doubt I won't be able to resist buying.

I put enough on my wishlist to give my Santa a good example of what I like but truthfully I've got a wishlist over at ARe with a lot of books that aren't on my Elfster list or my GR wishlist shelf and those are the ones that I buy. My SS was sneaky because they sent me a book that wasn't even on my wishlist but they remembered seeing me mention that I should read on a thread somewhere and they thought I needed a little nudge to get me to read it. I love gifts like that. I'm actually now going to do a buddy read in January with 4 or 5 or however many people want to with this book. So it's turned out to be the coolest gift because some of the people we were already friends but I've made 2 or 3 new friends because of this book too. So really awesome gift. I can't wait to find out who my SS is so I can really thank them.
