I read one of this author's other books and I liked it ok.
It was this one.
It wasn't bad but it wasn't my favorite. :D

I love this book so far. I really enjoy reading it in verse. The short "chapters" almost read to me like a lot of poems in an anthology. I hope you like it too. I am not sure of where my rating is heading just yet, but I just think the writing is beautiful and I love the metaphors too.

Spoilers can cover up through chapter 42.

Daisy: (view spoiler)[ She really is between a rock and a hard spot. I feel for her and the conflicting feelings she has. I love that she has music to turn to for comfort, but I'm so sad that she feels her home is a prison. It seems to me that her mother puts a lot on her, as though Daisy is the third parent in the home or sometimes like THE parent. That type of responsibility is too much for a growing child. No onw should have to walk around on tiptoes, and I think that without meaning to, her parents definitely make her second fiddle in the home. (hide spoiler)]

Dave Miller: (view spoiler)[ I'm not sure how I feel about him just yet. I am not in love with him nor do I totally dislike him. I guess time will tell. (hide spoiler)]

Mom and Dad: (view spoiler)[ I feel that these parents need to step up to the plate. Daisy seems to have conflicting feelings about their seemingly imminent divorce, too. Kids are so keenly aware of the problems between parents, even with subtle things like her dad not kissing her mom goodbye. I wonder if their marital problems are just from the stress of an autistic child in the home or if there are other issues. (hide spoiler)]

Mr. Orson: (view spoiler)[ I am glad that Daisy has someone like him in her corner. I hope that she follows through and applies to Overton. She needs to live her life and not feel responsible for her family. That's a trap that is too easy to fall into. She is not responsible for her brother either, as tough as that is to say. She needs her own life and to get out of her "prison" and fly into the heavens with her music. LOL Cheesy, I know. (hide spoiler)]

One of my favorite lines is in chapter 31 because I think it shows exactly where Daisy is emotionally: (view spoiler)[ "The emotion I feel isn't sorrow but anger at being imprisoned in an autism family." Anger at something that no one has much control over can lead to guilt and that worries me. Life truly is not fair, and that's sometimes a really tough lesson to learn. (hide spoiler)]

Needs let her live her life! I mean, she's tired! Doesn't get enough sleep! It's a wonder she finds time to pratice and get her homework done! (hide spoiler)]

Awe, thanks Trisha. I really liked it because it's a quick read but I read it slower like I'd read a poem. It really was beautifully written.

I think this is book that will have ratings all over the place. The plot is not exciting, no suspense, no truly lovable characters (for me anyway) but I did love the poetic quality of it. I always love good use of figurative language and the way she music was used.

I felt really bad that (view spoiler)[ the entire family seemed to be so relieved after they "got rid" of Steven. I'm not faulting them because they were sure in a difficult situation, but I still felt bad because I know if that were my son I'd feel SO guilty for feeling that way even though it might have been the best thing for all. Poor Daisy. I'm really glad that she finally has some true freedom though, and that she can quit walking on eggshells. (hide spoiler)]
