I read this a while ago for my Book Club and I can't really remember it now, which speaks volumes. This was my rather short review at the time and I gave it three stars.

"I have quite mixed feelings about this book. I feel like I have already read it. I also thought it was a bit disjointed. Not a patch on his other two books I have read, which both left me reeling.

That said, some of the events and emotions it conveyed were wonderful but it didn't all join up for me.

Thinking 3-ish stars. No more."

Cindy (cvanells) | 30 comments I was looking forward to reading "And the Mountains Echoed" because I loved "The Kite Runner", also by this author. Unfortunately, I felt that this book was not nearly as good, although I did enjoy it. The story spans several decades and generations of an Afghan family. It mainly takes place in Afghanistan and Paris, with side trips to Greece and the U.S. The narration jumps between the past and the present, and is told by several different characters. It wasn't always clear to me who the narrator was, or how he or she was relevant to the story until later. I don't usually mind authors who do that, but in this case, it was often too much work and definitely detracted from my enjoyment of the story.
