How many of you use Scrivener? What do you like/ dislike about it? I'm thinking of trying it for this years Nanowrimo. Thanks.

Blue Davis (bluedavis) | 6 comments I use it and I really like it. It's not the end all be all when it comes to programs, but I do think it makes it easier to write.

You know how when you write in Word, its just one long document? What I like about Scrivener is that you can separate chapters and scenes. So you can better see all of what you have. And that way, it gets a word count of each chapter, instead of just a whole big 'ol word count of the whole book.

Another thing I really like is the Project Target feature. You can set a word count for the entire book and also do a daily word count goal. It helps me write more, because I'm always trying to hit the goal.

I still use Word to compile to Calibre though, because I find Scrivener's compile feature too difficult to use. So I will write in Scivener, then copy-paste it into a Word template, then compile with Calibre. All in all, I think Scrivener is worth it, since it helps improve writing speed and goals. Hope it works for you too!

Trying to make an ebook with Scrivener is the one thing I have not mastered. But I do everything else in it. And I love the Project target feature too--it's what helps me stay focused.

Thanks Blue! I'm trying to get more familiar before Nov 1st. I have the free trial, but I'm thinking of purchasing it. Almost everyone in the Nano group swears by it.

I need to click around and figure out how to set the project target feature.

Blue Davis (bluedavis) | 6 comments Kim--Great :-) I agree, making the ebook is no picnic with Scrivener. I could never get the interior of the book to turn out pretty. I just like it for writing. Do you use it for something more?

Blue Davis (bluedavis) | 6 comments Michelle--I just remembered what a pain in the neck it was in the beginning. There's definitley a learning curve there.

It is a pain in the neck. I'm glad you said that because I was wondering if it was just me.
