Lee Broderick | 30 comments I'm loving this series of reissues which seems, for the most part, to have some thought and love behind it. For the most part they're relatively inexpensive ebooks with brilliant retro Victor Gollancz style covers. In some instances they're also making things far more readily available in the UK.

So, having worked my way through all of the Fafhrd & the Gray Mouser and the Kane books I thought I'd pick the brains of everyone here. I've already spied Elak of Atlantis but what other sword & sorcery books are in the series that I ought to be reading?

Charles (kainja) | 430 comments Have you read David Gemmell's Druss series? Or Glen Cook's Black Company series?

Lee Broderick | 30 comments The Black Company is on my to read list but somehow Druss had slipped my attention. Thanks Charles.

Legend is the first of the Druss books, although I liked the book Druss the Legend best. Gemmell's Skilgannon books, such as The swords of Night and Day are also very good.

Steven Williamson (stevewz) | 44 comments I highly recommend Joel Rosenberg's Guardians of the Flame series, staring with The Sleeping Dragon .

The book's premise is a group of sword & sorcery players (D&D) get swept up into their game world.

Charles (kainja) | 430 comments There was a series about a world called Magira that did something like this many years ago.

Dan (TheGreatBeast) | 213 comments If you are looking for something a bit more obscure, Richard Tierney's Simon Magus stories are pretty outstanding.

But the most important two authors when it comes to S&S is Michael Moorcock (author of Elric of Melnibone, though I slightly prefer Corum) and Robert E. Howard (author of Conan, though I slightly prefer Bran Mak Morn). If you haven't explored their works yet (and I imagine you have) drop everything and start that now!

Thanks, something similar to the old Flight of the Dragons film?

Not sure, as I've never heard of that.

Dan (TheGreatBeast) | 213 comments Flight of Dragons was my favourite movie as a child, still is in my top 5. Just wonderful! I actually like it much more than the book that inspired it, The Dragon and the George. Pretty different too.
