I am still awaiting your decision on Sweet Danger by Margery Allingham to carry on with this series
I think we have another Allingham next month. I am not sure I will, personally, continue the series, but we can add one in and we probably need to fit in the next Bobby Owen somewhere... It's lovely we are enjoying all these series, but hard to put them all in. I added the extra Blake as it had a Christmas theme and just seemed perfect for December!
Good to hear, Pamela. We do have the Poirot's going on as well and we don't want to get over-whelmed though. As mods, at least one of us like to read all the books on offer, if we can. We do have a Michael Innes coming up, which is fairly long too. We need to pace ourselves :)
I remember you said the Michael Innes book was quite long, Susan, so might be best not to add any more reads in August/September.
I am definitely up for more Allingham, and suggest Sweet Danger for September/October and the second Punshon - Death Among the Sunbathers - for October/November. :)

Buddy Reads coming up next are:
July/August: Police at the Funeral by Margery Allingham
July/August: The Mystery at Underwood House by Clara Benson
August/Sept: Lament for a Maker by Michael Innes.
Sept/October: Mr Bowling Buys a Newspaper by Donald Henderson.
Sweet Danger: Margery Allingham
October/November: Malice in Wonderland by Nicholas Blake
Death Among the Sunbathers: E R Punshon
November/December: The Case of the Abominable Snowman by Nicholas Blake
How is that? If we all approve, I will update the list.

It isn't so much that the Innes are long, but they really need attention, I find. A little more demanding that the average GA series :)
We have quite a few series that are included in our Buddy Read lists now.
If anyone has a Christmas themed one that is easy to get in the US, please suggest it. All the ones I have thought of are not easily available there.

Just a reminder that the discussion threads for our next buddy reads:
July/August: Police at the Funeral by Margery Allingham
The Mystery at Underwood House by Clara Benson
will open next weekend.

I have struggled a little with Innes. Quite enjoyed the first two, but I am really at a loss with the beginning of this one. Can someone convince me it is worth persevering with?! For anyone who does read this, the first part is almost incomprehensible - written in a thick, Scottish accent (I like Scottish accents by the way, but it is hard to read!) and rambling in the extreme.

I'm not on to that one yet, Susan, as I need to read our two main books for next month! Just a thought, might it be easier to listen to on audiobook?
I don't think it's on audiobook. I have read that other people have thought about giving up at the beginning stage. I am hoping it does improve...
I think this is a quite demanding series, Jan. A modern editor, for all their faults, may have been needed for the third in the series, I feel.
I am looking forward to:
Sept/October: Mr Bowling Buys a Newspaper by Donald Henderson.
There is another re-issue due in September, by Donald Henderson:
a voice like velvet
A sensational wartime crime novel about a BBC announcer who abuses his position to commit crimes against the rich and famous…
By day Ernest Bisham is a velvet-voiced announcer for the BBC; the whole country recognises the sound of his meticulous pronouncements. By night, however, Mr Bisham is a cat-burglar, careless about his loot, but revelling in the danger and excitement of his running contest with Scotland Yard. But as he gets away with more and more daring escapades, there will come a time when he goes too far . . .
When Donald Henderson’s Mr Bowling Buys a Newspaper caused something of a sensation, his publishers were keen to capitalise on their author’s popularity, quickly reissuing The Announcer (originally published under his pen-name ‘D. H. Landels’) with the more alluring title A Voice Like Velvet. Despite a small edition of just 3,000 copies, it was his best reviewed work, as suspenseful and offbeat as his earlier success.
This Detective Club classic includes an introduction by The Golden Age of Murder’s Martin Edwards, who explores Henderson’s own BBC career and the long established tradition of books about gentlemen crooks. The book also includes a rare Henderson short story, the chilling ‘The Alarm Bell’.
Looks good. We are so lucky to have all of these re-issues being planned and so many publishers taking an interest in GA books and authors.

I was thinking, in dull, and dark, January, a nice, sunny mystery might cheer us up. Would anyone like to start a nice, exotic, mystery series, set in India?
Possible Buddy read suggestions for the beginning of the year:
A Rising Man
The Unexpected Inheritance of Inspector Chopra
The Case of the Missing Servant
Also, wondered whether anyone would like to join in a buddy read of
Black Roses
This is the first in the Clara Vine series, written by Jane Thynne who was married to Phillip Kerr.

Would anyone else be interested in slowly meandering through the series, starting with Coffin, Scarcely Used?
Oh, yes, they were recommended to me by someone else, Rosina. Of course, now you have just disrupted my lovely new lists :)
Only joking - shall we put the first one in over December/January? Let me know. I am going out now, but will check in later. Great suggestion.

I probably won't be reading every one either, but I like that they are there.

Some exciting titles coming up there, thank you Susan! I've been meaning to try Black Roses, and am also looking forward to lots of the others!
Good to hear, Judy. I just wanted to organise the series we are following and make sure we rotate them properly, too.
Carolien has added P D James to our, ever-expanding, list. Thanks for the suggestion, Carolien.

We are so far ahead now that I am calling a temporary halt to adding new books to the Buddy Read list for a couple of months :)
Thank for all the great suggestions and it is fantastic that we have some new series starting, for new members to start with.
