Starting/joining in with buddy reads
We've now had Information Received by E.R. Punshon, the first Bobby Owen mystery, in our monthly poll several times but it has always missed out.
I'm wondering if anyone would fancy a buddy read of this one. We did have a buddy read in the early days of the group, but not many people joined in, so is the time right to do it again? I remember it as being a fun read.

Depends when we do it, Judy. I am interested, but couldn't fit it in for a couple of months at least.
These are our forthcoming books:
February:
Mystery Mile is our group read
Enter a Murderer the second challenge title
Buddy Reads include our current Buddy Read:
Jan/Feb: Green for Danger: Christianna Brand
Future Buddy Reads coming up are:
Feb/March: The Documents in the Case: Dorothy L. Sayers
March/April: The Beast Must Die: Nicholas Blake
March/April: Black Orchids: Rex Stout
April/May: An Expert in Murder: Nicola Upson
A group member has also organised a Poirot Buddy Read challenge. Should you wish to join in, the February read is:
The Murder on the Links
Information Received by E.R. Punshon, the first Bobby Owen mystery could be added to April/May, along with An Expert in Murder, or go to June/July? Is that too far off?
I would also love to do the third Campion book - Look to the Lady, if anyone is interested?

I don't want to overload us with too many buddy reads. I never read the Bobby Owens last time we did it, so I would be happy to read it, but I don't think An Expert in Murder is that short and we have the Poirot books running alongside...
Maybe we could add Bobby Owen in for May/June, if there is enough interest? I am also up for Campion at any time :)
Shall we have Bobby Owen and the Campion May/June? They are probably both quite short and I am getting into Campion now.
How about adding the Campion for May, and seeing what demand there is for Bobby Owen before adding that one?
I've read it previously, but suggested it because it is getting to be a regular in the polls...

I'm wondering if..."
I would be interested in joining -- I picked up quite a few of the Punshon books when they were being offered for free and kept hoping this first one would be a group read. Any time is okay with me.

Good idea, Jill. If I like it, I'll join you. We are reading a few series as Buddy Reads, on and off - Nicholas Blake for one.
Just a reminder that I will open the discussion thread for The Documents in the Case this weekend.
The thread for The Documents in the Case is now open. Future buddy reads include:

1.2 The Tragedy at Marsdon Manor
1.3 The Adventure of the Cheap Flat
1.4 The Mystery of Hunter's Lodge
1.5 The Million Dollar Bond Robbery
1.6 The Adventure of the Egyptian Tomb
1.7 The Jewel Robbery at the Grand Metropolitan
1.8 The Kidnapped Prime Minister
1.9 The Disappearance of Mr Davenheim
1.10 The Adventure of the Italian Nobleman
1.11 The Case of the Missing Will

I thought it would be a good idea to start the Nicholas Blake on Audible, so I could listen to it on the way to work. But. The. Reader. Reads. Like. That. And. So. I. Am. Going. Back. To. The. Book. Aarrgghh!
Oh. no.! I sympathise, Susan - I find I can only get on with audio books if I really love the reader's voice.
This reader has read ALL the Nicholas Blake books. I am bereft.... And I had such a wonderful experience with the George Smiley book and 1984, which I listened to recently.

Just a reminder that, mid-March, we have 2 new forthcoming Buddy Reads:
March/April: The Beast Must Die: Nicholas Blake
March/April: Black Orchids: Rex Stout
March/April: The Beast Must Die: Nicholas Blake
March/April: Black Orchids: Rex Stout
Really looking forward to both of these. I'm about to start the Rex Stout - still waiting for the Blake from the library.
Good to hear, Judy. I would say that nobody needs to have read the previous Blake novels before reading The Beast Must Die.

I have one more Rex Stout to read before Black Orchids and am planning to read Blake; its one I have on my kindle.
I love Archie too. I would like to read the Wolfe series in order but it isn't really practical for me as some of the books are much more expensive and harder to get hold of than others in the UK - fortunately I don't think it matters a lot reading these out of order.

I might reread the Blake. I am definitely joining the Rex Stout buddy read!
Good to hear that there are several of us planning to read both. I'll set up the Black Orchids thread this weekend - but it will stay open, so anyone starting to read it later can still contribute.
Both buddy read threads are now open, so please come on over and join in the discussions.

Thanks, Susan - I'm guessing the Blake read was organised in the spoiler thread? I haven't ventured in there because I'm not that far on in the book yet. Anyway, that's great - looking forward to it.
We do also have a buddy read of Information Received by E.R. Punshon scheduled for June/July. Perhaps we can slightly stagger the starts - but plenty of time to think about that.
Full list of current and forthcoming group and buddy reads here - I've added the next Blake to the mix: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Ah, did I miss one, sorry! I don't think many of us will continue the Blake series, but that's fine. We can always push it back a month if people are over-stretched.

I also can't wait to discuss Green for Danger."
Oh my! I JUST finished Green for Danger and can't wait to comment on it!
