OK, this is not easy, but I can't help it. I have to ask. It so happens that the town I live in, Ukiah, is Haiku spelled backwards. And we take advantage of it. Every year there is a haiku competition here. I've never entered because I absolutely stink at writing haiku. BUT, when Rose & Cicero are bantering about the bacon haiku, I laughed out loud. And it intrigued me. So here's the challenge:

Try it. Double points if the haiku that you write has something to do with Eternity Springs. (I absolutely will try it myself...but it may take a while.)

Haiku is a three-line poem structured as:
5 syllables
7 syllables
5 syllables

Google it for examples. It's truly an art form. And have fun. I'd love to see what you come up with.

Me too. If you smell something burning it's my brain cells frying. But I'd love to come up with something to do with Eternity Springs...and those handsome men. LOL.

Never tried it, my thoughts & writing style are too business like. I really struggle to write anything which isn't in a formal style.

Pam Herald | 76 comments Y'all, we can totally do this. I woke I thinking about it! Just need to think while I work today! Thanks for the challenge Paula! :)

***Drumroll, please!*** This one was so easy it's embarrassing...and it came to me in a flash. I am no longer a Haiku Virgin! Ready...set...read:

Eternity Springs
Colorado mountain town
Where Hearts Come To Heal

(inspired by a quiet house, a sleeping dog, a cat on my lap, and New Age music on TV.)

Great job, Linda! I'm going to work on one that makes reference to some of the other advantages of living in ES... hint-hint-hint.

Linda (lindamanthey) | 413 comments Cicero and Rose
Refined and transformed as one
By the fire of life.

I'm hooked. I love this.
Have fun everyone

Linda -- you've got the gift!!! That was so good and so perfect for our story! It is fun once you let your mind loose on the 'puzzle' of haiku!

There's a contemporary Christian song that has the same theme - refined by the fire. It will nag at me until I remember who sang that one. It's from the 80's I think....

AHHH! "The Refiner's Fire" by Steve Green. Score one for my sieve of a memory.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

A new haiku....

Authors make magic
Transforming words to feelings
And feelings to words.

P.S. This is really addictive once you get the right inspiration!!

Oh my goodness, I had such a crush on Steve Green when I was a youth. We used to go to Christian Music concerts at Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm with our youth group. It was such a blast. They would have different groups all over the park and you just went from one to another all night long. WOW memories... Those were fun times. Have a great night everyone. Linda Manthey

I got to see and meet Steve at church. He gave a concert during one of our revivals and it was incredible. I'll never forget it!
