Don't be concerned Maritza! Just some excited members here waiting for the challenge to start and chatting in the meantime. Any book you read during the challenge will help your team, and the best way to contribute is to help your captains by checking in to the team regularly and shelving your books on the right shelf. If you do that it will be a HUGE contribution! :D

Thank you, Alison! Please don't be intimidated by number of pages read or anything. The main goal of the Readathon was just to try to set aside as much dedicated reading time as possible in a 24-hour period and have fun. :-)

Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it, too. :-)

I really liked The Drafter. If you can, you should read the prequel story, Sideswiped, first. My only complaint is that The Drafter is clearly book one in a series and book two isn't out yet. That ending...It's not much of a cliffhanger but it doesn't close out too much. But it was a fun ride! :-)

I only manage to read 157 pages for the read-a-thon. But, I call it a success since I finished the book I wanted to and started a book I have checked out from the library at least five times in the last year.

You were a big contribution to the Fire Drakes!

message 406: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) I agree with Jen. It's hard, but when you see things like a RaT, and a few people doing some big numbers, you really shouldn't compare or think how you couldn't do that. The Read-a-Thons are just about spending ANY amount of time reading during that time, even if it's a half hour.

There were over 2000 in this Dewey's and if I had to guess, I'd say probably under 25 of them actually went the FULL 24 hours ~ meaning staying up the whole time without sleeping and spending most of it reading, not just socializing, which is the other part of Read-a-Thons. When I've been surfing the ending survey's today on blogs, the majority of people completed 1-3 books, some not even completing any.

It's just about setting any time aside, reading, and having a ton of fun! Some of us just have a lot more time to kill. Believe me, many people tell me they wish they had the time I did to read. Well, I wish that I had lives like they did, where I didn't have time. But that's just not how much life is.

Any read-a-thons are a fun experience!

That's great! It's not how much you read, it's "do you have fun reading?" that matters. Sounds like you enjoyed it so... Go You! :-)

I wasn't a huge fan of audio books for a long long time as I found my attention wandered and I would miss vital bits of the book but in last 12 months or so I have really taken to it.

Part of my job are quite monotonous and I have found that listening to an audio book whilst working actually helps me to focus and be less distracted plus and I have managed to listen to some great books this year including the entire throne of glass series and most recently these broken stars and the jewel.

I do agree that narrator plays such a big part in continuing on with an audio book as if I don't like the voice or doesn't fit the book for me then I have been known to stop within the first chapter and not go back to it

Karen, I have done that with a couple of books I have listened to. Its hit 5 pm at work and I have had to leave work so I have just picked up the book later that night after my daughter was in bed and finished the story LOL!

I managed three print books during the readathon with approximately 11 or so hours of reading. I have a three year and due to my time zone, it didn't start for me till 11 pm at night s I read my first book before going to bed then read dribs and drabs through the next morning as I looked after my daughter, had another focused reading session while she napped and again after she went to bed.

I had find though and did some of the challenges also as well as meeting finding some new blogs, twitter and instagram accounts to follow :-)

Sonia is putting them together, so I'll wait for her to get online about when they will be announced. Usually 1-2 weeks before we start.

There are almost 1000 different goals so it is hard to plan for anything specific, but we will post a google sheet with the list so you can have a look at the types of goals. I'm also completing a FAQ on different goals based on th Q&As we received through gladiator games. With any luck I'll have that posted within the next day or two

haha
I've done it more than once too :)
I always get a ebook copy or physical copy of the audiobook I'm reading for that reason (or if I need to re-read a certain passage it is easier than trying to find it on the recording!)

Me! I was ten books behind a couple of months ago and I got it down to five before some life crazy hit. (Good crazy, but still.) Hacked it down to eight yesterday, hoping to get it to zero... but yeah. So behind. >_<

I finished well behind on my challenge last year so this year I looked at how many books I HAD managed to read in 2014 and just added a few more to the total for this years challenge.

At this stage I am ahead and should finish early in which case I will extend my goal a little further but I was quite behind at one stage.

I say keep aiming for your original goal - maybe stage your own little readathon or just aim to get as close as you can?

I did the same thing! Life has a way of intruding now that I have a child (he's a puppy, but still...) and I just don't seem to read as fast as I did when I was younger. I've already achieved my 2015 goal. Every once in a while I look at expanding it, but I haven't (yet?).

No worries Alison!

I think I was conservative with my goal not knowing how we'd go with a new baby. But after a few weeks of not reading much I'm now finishing a book every other day as I read on my kindle while feeding the baby. So now I'm just curious to see how I go over the next year versus 2012/2013 when I was last on maternity leave ;)

Yep, Karen is right. I was waiting for Tea to be back from her trip, since I was naughty and started all 'official' work after she went off the grid.

Now that she's finally on board, I can work without the 'temporarily assigned' out of the way.... We had more sign-ups than expected... Meaning the teams may need some rearranging.

You could always decrease it some. Change it to something more manageable. I think the challenge, while there to challenge you, is not meant for stress, but fun. If you can't make what you put, change it to something smaller, see how much you can get over that and call it all good! :) I've both raised (multiple times) and decreased (once) my own goals.

Tower teams IV - Team Assignments

Important note 1: Threads will be posted as "closed" till the team captain is online. This step is to guarantee that some spots are reserved at the first page for the captains to post important things.

Important note 2: If any captain or co-captain was not invited to the captains group yet, please either let either us know, so we can fix it as quick as possible.

Important note 3:No return policy *evil laugh*

Now seriously, if aything is not right, let us know. 211 players is quite a number to manage :D

Honey don't worry... your team captain will ask you all the shelf names again :)

Plus, with the finds and replaces she's been doing. Some shelves names may be a little off

No, you don't have to read book before discussion.
For those points you need to be part of BOM. Since we are going by read date, I'd say you need to read that book in month it is a BOM. But maybe another mod will say otherwise :)

Anyway, you can't read book now, and then ask questions next month for points.

Hi Daphne, I was just trying to decide between doing a post or sending a few PMs.

We have 6 members at the moment waiting for a team assignment. Sign-ups are still open for regular spots. I'm just waiting a few more days to see if there will be the need to create another team. Or starting to add new members to the current ones.

But worry not, we'll PM you as soon as you're assigned. Just give it a couple of days :)

No problem. Worse case scenario, you get into a REALLY chatty team, and have at least 5 pages of comments to catch up

LOL
