Joa | 2 comments This book is about this city that is terrorized by blind flying creatures that they think are attracted to light, so each time they are attacked they put out the lights citywide, any lone lanterns become targets for the creatures, and they attack the people who still have lights in their house. However, later in book, or series, protagonist discovers that actually the creatures are repelled by light, just that it would require the whole city to light up, not a lone lantern in the dark.

It is also discovered this 'useless' red jelly like material found naturally in the earth can actually accelerate the growth of the creatures.

If the animals in your book were attracted to light, why not just set up some lights in a deserted area to lure them in and then kill them all? If it was in NYC, they could use Yankee Stadium. You'd kill off all the animals and leave the stadium covered in rotting vermin corpses. That's what we Red Sox fans call a win-win.

Peggy Myers | 4 comments It seems to me that this book might be in a series set in Dublin. Darkfever is the name of the first book, by Karen Marie Moning. The main character (female) is a Buffy-like slayer of Unseelie Faeries. In one book implements of magic have to be collected. All the ones I've read (5 so far) have "fever" in the title. Hope this helps.

Joa | 2 comments Thanks for all the help, but I researched it some more and I managed to find the title I was looking for, for any who are curious what the book/series was, it is the trilogy by Emily Rodda, starting with The Golden Door, then The Silver Door, then The Third Door.
