Catherine (homeqrown) | 21 comments The dog was male, and he was a big dog. In fact, that was kinda a thing in the story. When he was a pup the people he and his mother lived with didn't like him because he was too big and clumsy. This caused the character insecurity. His mother called him "k-10," like K9, only a number up, because she said he was special, or better. I don't know if K-10 was his actual name, or if it was something generic like Lucky. (It could've been Lucky.) Anyway, there is a lot of emphasis put on how cowardly this character is. He submits humiliatingly to another dog in one scene. The majority of the book he was hanging out with a female Black Labrador, if I remember correctly, and at one point her humans took her on a road trip and she had to leave messages (you know what I mean) for this main character. I did not sense anything romantic between them. The main character was perhaps part Golden Retriever and part German Shepherd--at least, that's the impression the cover gave me (light golden-brown dog, head-shot with most of body cut off, green fields behind).
