Section 1

Please keep all discussion and speculation to the events of Prologue, and Part 1 (Chapters 1-4).

No spoiler tags required. Though it would be highly appreciated if you Uncheck Add to my Update Feed to avoid accidentally spoiling this for your good read friends.

Please do not discuss events from later chapters/books. Referring back to events from a previous section/book is fine.

Geoff (geoffgreer) A quick and effective intro to the plot. And it also refreshed me enough that I didn't have to do too much wiki reading catching up on the characters/plot from the first book.

Scott (thekeeblertree) | 1049 comments Yeah, was worried I'd be somewhat lost but he's done a good job with a refresh.

Forgot about Wayne and his trades. Good stuff

This type of western setting really fits the Mistborn world well. Extremely easy to visualize everything.

Bill | 1596 comments I didn't really see the need for the prologue. I'm sure it will connect in some way.

I agree it was a good introduction to get us caught up. I agree this setting really works well. I like the slow introduction of technology also.

Scott (thekeeblertree) | 1049 comments Wax's aversion to cars was pretty funny. I'd be that way too if I could push on metal and basically fly

I need to read the Wiki, because I have questions. I didn't feel lost, but I want to clarify some details about past events.

I will say it took me a bit longer to get into it than I'd expected. I worried that maybe I was growing oversaturated with Sanderson or that he's spreading himself too thin.

However by the end of part 1 (and especially after today's listening which includes the first chapter of part 2) I was sucked back into it.

I really like both the setting and Wax and Wayne. I also like how evolved his magic system based on changes in technology.

Sky | 1291 comments Yeah, i was confused at first by the prologue since it seemed to have taken place in the past - which in the end it did - but I guess its nice to have some backstory about how he met a character that died in the previous book? Anyways it was a little funny to see him more as the raw inexperienced nobleman he was when he first started rather than the rough and tumble roughs law man he portrays himself as now.

I listened to the first hour of the last book, and then I remembered the whole heist plot - I had forgotten about his uncle not being dead and the Set until I read the wiki - I am hoping there weren't more clues about the Set and their goals in the last book that I have forgotten about - the quote that stuck with me at the end of this part was something about bringing allomancy to everyone - are they trying to resurrect Hemmulurgy?

And what is the book Wax is reading? Is it Kelsier's autobiography, or is it the original book written by Lord Ruler (or the Sherpa he was or whoever he was pretending to actually be - those details are all fuzzy for me now)

Scott (thekeeblertree) | 1049 comments I honestly can't remember whose book/journal it is. I'm pretty sure it's the same journal that Ironeyes (Marsh) gave to Marasi to give to Wax at the end of Alloy

Ok, read that part of the Epilogue in Alloy and it's not mentioned who the book belonged to. Just that it would have information Wax would need. And Marsh says something about how Wax is continuing his (Marsh's) brother's work

Sky Corbelli | 288 comments Pretty enjoyable part 1.

I know that in humans, Hemalurgy opened them up to hear Ruin and granted Ruin some amount of control over them. The Kandra spikes were definitely reminiscent of Hemalurgy (was it ever confirmed that they were the same thing?), and a Mistborn could mentally control them with a hard enough emotional push/pull.

Now I'm wondering... does Hemalurgy make anyone who uses it susceptible to direct mental control from a sufficiently powerful Rioter/Soother?

Also, is a steel compounder the next best thing to The Flash who can also use the Force? I think it might be.

Tammy I enjoyed the prologue to learn a bit about Lessie, maybe this will factor more into this book? The humerous part was Wax talking about having a "thing", and a young Wayne.

Otherwise just getting back into the characters and trying to remember uncle Edwarn?
