I agree too, that was so nice of Tyler! Wow, what an opening scene, huh? It had me on the edge of my seat from page one! I couldn't believe it when Loretta showed up at the visitor center with a gun, for the longest time I had no clue who she was or what was going on. I really hope that Sarah is still alive and that Nikki is able to finally find her. I also hope that Jamie and her baby are safe.
I can't decide whether I think Brandon Knight was somehow involved in Bridget's abduction or not. I don't know why, but for some reason I keep getting creepy vibes from Jack, weird I know! (hide spoiler)]

I really had mixed feelings about this book.

(view spoiler)[ First, please understand that I usually don't read mysteries or romances. I was exploring a new genre here. I liked the mystery aspect of the book. Just as the rest of you were, I was on the edge of my seat to find out what would happen. The part where Loretta showed up was really amazing for me also. Plus, I really wanted to see how Nikki would get away from Cooper in the end. The downside of the book for me was the romance. I didn't like the way the author made it so obvious from the beginning. I thought it was a distraction from the part of the book I liked. I would have preferred to see no romance in it at all. That is just me you understand! We are all different! Also, the spiritual aspect of this book was good. I would have gotten a lot out of that if it weren't for the distraction of the romance. When they were talking about their spiritual challenges and hand holding at the same time, that was an immediate turn-off for me. I loved this book!(view spoiler)[I completely agree, I had no clue who the kidnapper was but I was suspicious of Jack for most of the book! I was totally shocked that it didn't turn out to be the same man who kidnapped Sarah, but it did make me want the next book in the series NOW! Which is interesting because it's been quite a while since I've felt that way about a series!!! I really liked the way the author did the romance thread, to me it felt realistic and believable, I can't wait for them to officially get together! Did anyone else have difficulty keeping track of the secondary characters? I found myself having a bit of a hard time keeping track of which ones were park rangers and which ones were local law enforcement. Also, I mean it was super cool and the story wouldn't have been nearly as good without it but to me it seemed a little unrealistic that Tyler was allowed to help investigate, I know he was ex-military but from what I understand he wasn't affiliated with any branch of law enforcement, maybe it's just me but I would have thought that Nikki's boss or somebody might have had a problem with that, but that's okay, it is fiction after all and it made the story even better! Speaking of Nikki's boss, I was very surprised that Nikki never checked in with him throughout the investigation (At least I don't recall that she did, please correct me if I'm wrong!)

I also have to say that I absolutely love the cover! The trees create such a creepy effect you can't help but feel a sense of foreboding, so you can know judging by the cover that you'll get a great suspense! (hide spoiler)]

Suspense is my favorite genre, and I love when books are just pure suspense and don't have any romance as a distraction, but I also enjoy romantic suspense too. Some books the romance will annoy me (especially if it's insta-love) and others I'll love it, so it just depends on the story.
