The list is really coming together! We only have two or three more polls left (depending on how the "extra" topics are treated)

1. A biography, autobiography, or memoir
2. A book published in 2016
3. A book with a beautiful cover
4. A book about a major world event (fiction or non-fiction)

Suggestions for the 11th Mini-Poll will open on Tuesday, October 7

Bana AZ (anabana_a) | 414 comments Thanks, Laura!

Sadly, most of my votes didn't make it. Oh well, it's all about the challenge.

Brittany (tinsel hoarding bookdragon) (gamerkiti) man, none of my top 10 made it! voting is getting tough! haha

Ah, 2 of my top4 and 2 of the "no thank you" list. Not bad!
I can't say it as loudly as I want but YEEEES A BEAUTIFUL COVER!!! I'm looking forward to discover new beauties :D

No idea for the major world event. I'll probably pick something about US history except if it's possible to choose a major world event in "the future" (zombies and climate apocalypse happen a lot in the future :p).

Zaz > I was trying to do a very broad suggestion with the world event so that people could choose something positive or negative. As opposed to "war", for instance. It also allows for more loose interpretations like the zombie apocalypse :p

Charity (faeryrebel78) Two of these were in my top 4, one was my 5th choice, and the other I wasn't excited about but that adds to the challenge. I'm really starting to get excited about the challenge!

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) only 1 of my votes made it. of course, one i ranked towards the bottom made it too. Oh well, I guess i'll get to read something that didn't really interest me.

On the other hand, at least we have a wide variety of books to read for next year.

Marta (gezemice) Edit: misread the line on the top, I thought suggestions are open. Sorry!

I am a late-comer and I was looking through the list, trying to think of something different. These are my ideas - I realize some are tough!!

- a book from an earlier 20th century decade, either 30s, 40s, 50s or 60s (just one) - we don't read too many of those
- a medieval or antique classic - published before 1500. This would let us read a Greek Play, Dante, The Decameron, Chaucer, or something by Plato, Plutarch, etc. This is probably outside most of our comfort zones but many are short.
- a book sports-themed book: like Moneyball or Seabiscuit, or a biography of an athlete
- a nonfiction book about science, i.e. A Brief History of Time, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, medicine, physics, psychology, etc.
- a difficult book: something you gave up on because it was too difficult, or wanted to read but put it off you thought it was difficult
- a "just for fun" book
- a self-improvement book
- a children's classic novel (not a picture book)
- a book by an African or African-American author

Marta > we already have the children classic. If I remember well, the science, sport and the self improvement books were proposed in previous polls but didn't make it (of course, it's ok to add again something in the batch).
I like your last proposition. You can propose one of your ideas in the next suggestion topic :)

None of mine ever do!

message 12: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) Oh shoot I'm in holiday and I forgot to vote! But I'm ok with the choices, they would have been on my top 10 I guess. Although I planned to read a biography for the non-fiction book, I guess I'm going to read two of those in 2016!

message 13: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 531 comments I like all of these! I can't remember what I voted for, but I'm pretty sure I chose at least two or three. Time to update the spreadsheet. :)
