All I can remember is a scene where a boy gets kicked in the balls at a party. His older brother finds out and goes to confront the bully. When they get to his house a dog comes out and attacks the older brother. The younger brother feels guilty even though he told his brother not to go. I think the older brother was good at baseball but this ruins his future career.

It is in "This is where I Leave you' by Jonathan Tropper. It ruins his brothers sports career chances and they are distant after that.
YES - thank you! I thought it was from that but then I saw the movie and there was no mention of that incident so I thought it must have been a different book. It was driving me crazy!! Thanks again.
