Wonderful writer. Beyond excellent.

This is really devastating. I really appreciated Henning Mankell not only for Kurt Wallander (who is more than a detective and the books are more than crime books) but he was a quite remarkable person. A good man and definately loved by many.

I'm sad to hear about Henning Mankell's passing. I enjoyed the Wallender books and the TV series - both the Swedish and American versions.

Sorry to hear about his passing. His novels gave me many hours of pleasure. And I'm sure he will live on as others enjoy reading his words. As Shakespeare said, " So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see, So long lives this, and this gives life to thee."

I'd always thought Henning Mankell one of the best mystery novelists out there, not just in Scandinavia. I could never understand why everyone made such a big fuss over Stieg Larsson when his compatriot Mankell, at least in my opinion, was a far superior writer.

A fellow worker introduced me to Mankell by saying he wrote one of the few intelligent mystery series that he had found. He got me hooked.

I enjoyed the Swedish TV series starring Krister Henriksson more than the books. Probably because Henriksson played Wallender as dark character and that aspect didn't show up as much in the book.

Our local PBS station, Knowledge TV just started showing the original Swedish version of the Wallander series last night. We enjoyed it much more than Brannagh's version. It was excellent.

The Swedish versions of Wallander are far better than the UK version. Even my husband got caught up in them!
