Emma Jaye | 3693 comments This thread is now open for you to join GROUP 83 by adding your GR (not Amazon) book link. We have 10 places – I’ll add your name as you sign in. We’ll aim to get started in just a few weeks so once you’ve signed in watch for a message that we’re ready to start.

When you add your book link it not only indicates you want to join the group – it indicates you AGREE that you are WILLING TO REVIEW ANY ALLOCATED BOOK within the set 12 week limit.
This is a ‘clean’ group i.e. absolutely NO explicit sex, NO violence. If you enter your book in this group and it contravenes the ‘clean’ criteria, the other members will be able to provide evidence of the contravention to the group moderator, in the form of the offending passage(s) and if the group moderator agrees there has been a contravention the members will not be penalised for not giving a review. The contravening member will still be expected to give their 4 reviews.
There is no genre filtering.
Allocation is entirely random and there will NOT be any rearranging of the listing to accommodate genre preference. The ONLY circumstance in which you may duck out of giving a review is if YOU provide a stand-in reviewer.

Let’s be honest here – we don’t all like the same things but we all want reviews. The only way this group can function is if we trust each other to behave honourably. And it IS perfectly possible to give a fair-minded review of a text that does not coincide with our normal choice of reading matter. If you need a few hints/tips, please see this thread:

Please add your goodreads author and book link, and mention if you have reviewed or been reviewed by anyone already signed up.

message 17: by Emma (last edited Oct 15, 2015 12:52AM) (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments I think I can fit you both in, but Margaret, you will be reviewing perhaps both Carly and Ibiloye again, and Gita, as both of them have reviewed you they may be reivewing you again. I'll try to wiggle things so everyone gets the greatest variety. but it isn't always possible.
As Gita, Carly and Ibiloye all have more than one book, those authors will have to send a different book, (that fits the clean criteria).

What book Gita?

Thanks for the welcome Emma.

I'm afraid I will have to withdraw. I re-read the guidance (message one) and suspect I may fall foul of the "No Violence" clause. In my defence - I didn't think the violence depicted in my book to be excessive, but violence is violence. I'm off to give myself a good talking to after I've apologised to you and the group. Sorry.

Brian

message 22: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments The rules do state excessive, but if you are more comfortable in a different group, I understand.

message 29: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments As far as I can work out these are the clashes in this group.
Carly has reviewed Ibiloye and Gita
Margaret has reviewed Carly and Ibiloye
Ibiloye has reviewed Gita
Scott has reviewed Demot.

Loralee, Dan, Ben and W R are new to the group.

Any more clashes I have to factor in? Please say so now so I can organise the reading order. You all have 24hrs to let me know.

message 30: by Scott (new)

Scott Spotson (scottspotson) I have reviewed Dermot. With Diana not in the group, there are no other clashes to my memory. Dermot also has reviewed me so it looks like we can't review each other either way. I don't know anyone else in the group so far.

Please remember the commitment you are making to your fellow group members. If you pull out after the start date for any reason it is the other members who will be faced with the problem of finding a replacement, or missing out on reviews, through no fault of their own. Please don’t ask the moderators to chase after replacements as we just don’t have the time.

It is the responsibility of the author to get their book to their reviewer in a format the reviewer can manage. There are no set dates for the start of each round. You can each work at your own pace, within the limits of the round deadlines. All reviews must be posted by 20th January.

When you have posted your reviews, please post the links to your reviews in this thread.

All reviews must be posted to GR, Amazon .com and Amazon.co.uk.

Postings to any other sites are by agreement by both author and reviewer.

If I’ve missed something that results in you being asked to review someone who has already reviewed you, please let me know asap.

To exchange book files, my advice is to use PM to give email addresses to each other (save the chance of spammers getting your addies from this open forum). I'll stay with you until Barbara takes over as your group moderator. Happy reviewing, everyone :)

Welcome to Group 83

How to post your links to Goodreads, Amazon and Amazon UK:

Goodreads – Your review may or may not come up on a separate page after posting depending on the location where you posted it from originally. If the review appears on a page all its own, just copy the URL at the top of the browser window. You’ll want to include the numbers that come after “show/” in the URL, but nothing else. Like this: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show.... Goodreads may have truncated that URL but if you want to see it in its entirety, just click on it and look at it in the top of the browser window.

If it doesn’t come up on a separate page, go to your own page and scroll down to your reviews. Click on "more" at the end of the review you're posting and it will take you to the dedicated page. Then follow the instructions above.

Amazon and Amazon UK – You write your review and then submit it. For some people it takes a while for the review to post, for others, it happens instantly. Once you believe your review has posted (either by seeing it on the book page or waiting for Amazon to email you and tell you it’s up):

Go to the book page. Go to the end of the reviews and click on “see all XX customer reviews (newest first)”. Find your review – at the bottom of your review you’ll see three buttons: report abuse, permalink and comment. Click on permalink. (If you don’t see the three buttons, as sometimes happens on Amazon UK, just click on the review title.) This will bring your review to a separate page. You'll now copy the URL at the top of the page. This time, you’ll want to include the numbers that come after “review/” in the URL, but nothing else:
http://www.amazon.com/review/RO95W1MY...

You can test either of these methods by taking the link you’ve copied and pasting it into a new browser window.

~~¤¤¤~~

Please address direct questions to an individual via PM (private message) and more general questions to the group on this thread.

Please post three links on this thread as you complete each review (one here at Goodreads, at Amazon and Amazon UK) so I don’t have to run halfway across the world to find them all. And finally, please remind me when you post each review of the name of the book you’ve reviewed along with the author’s name.

Thanks and good reading!

Yes, you're right, it looks exactly like that, which is why I look at the content of the reviews quite closely when a person reads four books in less than a week. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt. I really do. I imagine that maybe they don't have to work or speak to anyone and that they do nothing but read from sunrise to sunset. Maybe they only need two hours of sleep a night. Or maybe they actually are one of those "one in a million" people who can speed read. Having considered all the possibilities, you can imagine my surprise when I saw that we have two such people in our group!

In truth, it doesn't matter what I think about any of it. All that matters at the end of the day is that the posted reviews contain meaningful content, enough so that the review helps prospective readers decide whether or not they might want to read the book themselves.

So read on everybody and let's continue to help each other get our stories out there and into the hands of readers who might enjoy them!

Best,
Barbara
