Tasha After my current 2 reads, Breaking Silence and Property, I'm going to switch to short title words.

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I can't believe I'd remembered the ending to Bird Box incorrectly. It was a quick and thrilling reread.

message 255: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Too bad we can't have more than one board. We'll probably have to revisit the board at the end to try and make sure we've got the highest scoring words. Like Jackaby is 25 points, but there is no room on the board for it right now. And then again, if I don't hurry up, it may not get finished in time. I'm only 20% in. LOL!

Did you get more out of it the second time?

message 257: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Janice, I found out at the beginning that the book is set in Michigan. That's where I live. That was fun. I still enjoyed the read and the tension as it built. There was a lot I'd forgotten. I had the ending all wrong in my head. I'll go over to the discussion thread and add comments.

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I'm at a loss as to what to read next. I hadn't planned on reading more than 3 books, and now I've read 4 and have plenty of time to spare. Nothing I have at home seems have a place on the grid, and the first letters are big counts either.

Question, do we only get the grid counts for our word only if it actual gets on the grid? Or do we get points for all the letters in the word, regardless?

message 259: by Kerri (last edited Oct 21, 2015 04:27AM) (new)

Kerri Don't worry too much about whether they fit on the board yet, I think the plan is to rework the grid at the end for maximum points.
I'm a bit the same, I don't know what to read next. I just finished The Gunslinger and I'm not sure how I feel about it yet, might have to sleep on it.

message 260: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Thanks, Kerri. As far as Gunslinger goes, I urge you NOT to give up on the series until you've read book 2, The Drawing of the Three. It is less confusing and has non-stop excitement, adventure, and tension.

I've actually decided to run to the library this morning and pick up She, as it will fit in our current grid, and likely in our future one. "Bird" from Birdbox will fit in to the current one, too, and I finished that quickly yesterday.

message 261: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I finished my 3rd read, going over to report it.

I think my next book will be Dark Matter.

Still working on an audio as well.

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I'm also going to read Q is for Quarry. That will fit on any Q in our grid!

message 264: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) I'm in the middle of my fifth book The Body finder,, Then I think I will read the next book in that series not sure of the title but the first word is desire :-)
We are doing fantastic! I think we are all pretty steady readers, but none of us are overly crazy, LOL!

message 265: by Debra (last edited Oct 21, 2015 10:47AM) (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I just found out that if we connect Queen and Quiet at the Q, my Q for Quarry book would be laid on top of the joining Q and we would get a total of 38 points for Q for Quarry alone. We might consider rearranging things to make that happen. Someone, who I'll not name because she's on another team, told me this little secret! lol

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Debra wrote: "Question, do we only get the grid counts for our word only if it actual gets on the grid? Or do we get points for all the letters in the word, regardless? ."

I believe that we only get grid points if the word ends up on the grid. If a word is more than 7 letters, only the first 7 go on the grid and the remainder are discarded, including those letter points.

message 267: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments I made a little headway on Jackaby last night, but still not at 50%. Blaze has 3.5 hours left on audio. I doubt I'll get my 5th book read even though the hold came through last night and I was able to download it from the library. We shall see, so we shall.

message 268: by Kerri (last edited Oct 21, 2015 12:29PM) (new)

Kerri I've decided to read a real book for my next one and will probably go with The Wronged Sons which means it'll be a slower read for me. All the others were audio, but im getting tired of someone constantly reading to me.
Debra I will continue the Darktower series at some point, I know you are mad keen Stephen King fan, so if you were confused by the Gunslinger that makes me feel better.
Janice I hope you finish Jackaby, I went hunting through my library audios and found Jack which is under 4 hours, so I borrowed it.
I was wondering what happened with 1 letter titles like X., good to know they can just be put on top of existing words.

message 269: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I understand, Kerri. I'm listening to my 2nd audio this week and I'm rushing through it and I'm getting tired of listening. I may need a break after this one.

message 270: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments I'm a "mad keen" Stephen King fan and loved The Dark Tower series. Gunslinger was written when he was around 19 and wasn't intended to become his magnus opus. Although he did revise it somewhat when he dusted it off and turned it into The Dark Tower series, it still has that rough quality to it. The others are much better.

message 271: by Kerri (last edited Oct 21, 2015 02:13PM) (new)

Kerri I'm not sure which version I listened to, but I found it a little confusing at times. I had trouble keeping all the different characters and their part in the story straight in my head. Would it have helped to read The Little Sisters of Eluria first? Maybe it would have been better to read it rather than listen to it. It kind of reminded me of The Road but I felt it had more of a purpose to it and I'm intrigued enough to continue the series.
How are you finding Blaze? It's not what I expected being a Stephen King novel, but once I'd finished and thought back over the story I think I appreciated it more.

message 272: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) Just finished another book, I might be able to squeeze another book in today, but I never know what's going to happen once my kids get home from school, and it is about that time!
I did something to my leg when I was walking this morning, so it hurts to walk around the house, so this is my excuse to just sit and read, and not do housework!

message 273: by Kerri (new)

Kerri Good excuse Berit, milk it while you can ;)

message 274: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments In case you missed this:

***Clarification for one letter titles***

For Part 2, if you have any, a one letter title should be the first word on your board, and it will be the only one letter title used. So no, you can't read all the Sue Grafton books and randomly use letters of the words already on the board to claim another title. The next word would connect to your one letter title, and you'd go from there like normal play.

message 275: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4530 comments I finished my second book, Fuzzy Navel. I read the first book in this series a long time ago and for some reason never continued. I can't imagine why not. The main character, Jack Daniels, is so funny in the most inappropriate situations. I'm going to have to add this to my growing list of series reads.
Now I'm moving on to The Cove.

I wouldn't sweat it. Just move on to the next book. It will all make sense later on. You can also access the Wiki site for all things Dark Tower. http://darktower.wikia.com/wiki/Can_C...

I'm enjoying Blaze. It's a bit slow - more character driven than plot driven compared to his other novels. Still it's pretty obvious that it's a Stephen King novel.

I'm afraid I found my way to the bottom of a bottle of wine tonight, so will try to finish it tomorrow.

message 277: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee Heading the road in two hours .. Enjoy your books and the toppler ..
I'll report the books as soon as I return back, I'll make sure I finish them all before Sunday's noon ..

message 278: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Bye, CFDeeDee. See you Monday!

Janice! The whole bottle? BTW, read your GR mail.

Mad Keen! I love it!

message 279: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments I see Dawn has revamped the grid. Something to consider is how to get the most out of our "Q" titles. We've got queen, queen, quiet and Debra is currently working on Q (Q for Quarry).

We have to lay the Q down first - then Queen attaches to it and Quiet attaches to it as well - so 30 points right there for the Q... I hope I understand that right. It's early yet and I haven't had my coffee yet.

message 280: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Debra wrote: "Janice! The whole bottle?"

Yup, the whole bottle! My friend and I started out by sharing a bottle of wine, and then we ordered a second. And it was all over for us but the singing.

message 281: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I'm a light-weight. I'd be loopy after a whole bottle of wine. lol

message 282: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments I was loopy after half the first bottle. Hehehehe!

message 283: by Debra (last edited Oct 22, 2015 01:06PM) (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments LOL!

I finished and reported Q is for Quarry. Let's maximize the heck out of that Q in our grid, cuz I took one for the team reading it! It was kind of boring, but fairly well-written. But no excitement until the very end, which I predicted.

Now I'm reading The She figuring a short word like that will fit in somewhere.

message 284: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments I have been busy, so not too much time for stopping here, I'm listening to my book, though, so still working!

message 285: by Vicki (new)

Vicki | 1538 comments When we say that Q needs to be the first word on the board, does that mean it needs to be in the center of the grid?

message 286: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) Is that how scrabble is played? Because if so, I would say yes. But I'm not a Scrabble player :-)

message 287: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments No, the Q can be placed anywhere that works best. We aren't playing real scrabble, just J-Mom's wicked version of it. And she makes the rules. lol

message 288: by Vicki (new)

Vicki | 1538 comments OK that's good. I've tried paying around with a grid but it is really hard! lol

message 289: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I finished my 4th: Dark Matter. I'll finish up my current audio by the toppler end. That will probably do it. I'll start another read tonight but probably won't finish it by Saturday.

message 290: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) I finished my sixth book? I'm not even quite sure, I'll post it in a little, I think I have a couple more in me, maybe???
I think we've all done fantastic! Great job girls!

If anyone else is trying to put together a grid, keep your best effort and we can compare at the end. we can use whichever one gets us the most points.

message 292: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments I've been really bad this week. Instead of reading tonight, I went bowling. I haven't been in many years and I'm going to be sore tomorrow. The ball kept rolling off my fingers and my hand is already sore.

I'm off to bed to read. I'm going to try to make a dent in my book.

message 293: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments I love bowling. I'm wondering if it might be a good thing to do at lunch time to get me out of the office. Maybe if I get some of my own shoes....

message 298: by Tasha (last edited Oct 23, 2015 08:43AM) (new)

Tasha Finished book 5 and that will be it for the audio books. Both audios sucked so I'm not interested in even starting another one soon.

I'm reading a 6th book right now that is wonderful but I most likely won't finish it before tomorrow afternoon. I will definitely try though!
