Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Finished Zombie and am glad to be out of that psycho's head! Now I'm reading The Xibalba Murders, but not sure I'm going to like it. It's not intriguing me so far.

message 153: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee You guys are fast !!
I'm still not done with the first 100 pages of the first book :(
I don't want to let anyone down so I'll try as hard as I can tomorrow

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments CFDeeDee, don't stress yourself, the most important thing is to have fun. Not everybody reads at the same speed. Your are not letting anyone down, don't worry!

I only managed to read 10% of Dracula. My 2 years old broke his collar bone, so we have been in the ER.... etc... He is fine, and in a few days he will be as good as new.
It's 9 pm here, let's see how much I can read before the day's end.

message 155: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) OK, I just got home from my youngest baseball game and dinner, now going to try to finish up my first book, but it might not happen until tomorrow morning, busy day!
Sandra is correct, just have fun!

message 156: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments I started my first book and it's a bit of a snoozefest. Five hours of listening pleasure left. I hope it picks up. I'll start my second book shortly to break it up.

message 157: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) Snooze fest, Does not sound fun, good luck!

Yeah! One book is in the bag. Don't forget to head over to the reporting thread.

message 159: by Vicki (new)

Vicki | 1538 comments I finished When Everything Feels Like the Movies. It was amazing! I never read books that fast. (But it was really short)

message 160: by Kerri (new)

Kerri I finished Fahrenheit 451 and really enjoyed it. I used to say I don't like sci-fi or dystopia or YA but have now come to realise it's best to ignore all the labels and give anything a go.

message 161: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) Fantastic job all!!! Keep it up girls!

message 162: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Wow! First day and we have 3 books finished!
Great job team!

message 163: by Marie Claude (new)

Marie Claude (mariecg2001) | 1030 comments Finished The Martian and reported it on the report thread.

Will now begin A Wrinkle in Time. I want to read something a little lighter, and I think that could do it... and it might be profitable... ;o)

message 164: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments How did you like The Martian, Marie Claude?

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Super job ladies! :) I'm headed to bed with my book. See you all in the morning.

message 167: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee Funny, some of us is going to bed and some just woke up! Morning everyone
Book is roaming with me on the way to my class, even though its annoy the teacher but I'll just ignore his comments .. Lets see if I could finish it today!

message 168: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Great job to us all, especially the ones that have already finished a book or two! I didn't get as much reading time in last night and only read about 15% into my book. I'll try to do better today. ;)

I just jumped on here for a sec and need to get back to reading while my house is quiet!

message 169: by Debra (last edited Oct 18, 2015 05:07AM) (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments CFDeeDee. I also want to chime in and say just have fun with this. Don't worry about how much you are reading. We all read at different paces and some of us have more leisure time on our hands.

Sandra, sorry to hear about your son. As you said, he'll be better in no time. Dracula is a good book, but a hard one to read in a short time. I hope you enjoy it!

And good morning to everyone, or good night for those on the other side of the world from me. My current book isn't really grabbing me, but I'll keep going. It's an X book! Taking one for the team!

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Janice, thanks about the reminder to report my book. But, I don't understand the "grid" points part. I know we will have a scrabble board, but don't know where my book would be on it, assuming it it used.

message 171: by Marie Claude (new)

Marie Claude (mariecg2001) | 1030 comments Sandra wrote: "How did you like The Martian, Marie Claude?"

I loved it, but it was a slower read than I expected...

message 172: by Sandra, Moderator (last edited Oct 18, 2015 05:42AM) (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Debra, so far the words are not being placed in the board. You just need to add the value of the letter in the words. This will do the job easier in case the word is finally placed in the board.

In the case of your book, ZOMBIE, you got 10 points for the Z, and then if you add Z+O+M+B+I+E you get 19 points. If the word zombie ended in the board it will give us 19 points.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I think it was a great read. Not sure if I want to see the movie... I usually don't enjoy movies based on books I read.

Not sure I want to see it either LOL I will probably end up seeing it on Netflix in a couple of years LOL

message 177: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I was pleasantly surprised with the movie. Matt Damon was excellent, as was the supporting cast.

message 178: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Good morning - or should I say good day? I read till 2:30 in the morning and finished my first book. Then I slept in, and I need to get to work! ACK!!

When I finish work for the day, I'll continue with my audiobook, and later start my second book Jackaby.

I'm mourning Outlander. I had 15 hours left in the audiobook when the Toppler started and have to set it aside till after the toppler is over. *sniff* I think I've fallen in love with a fictional character. And to top it all off, I went and looked at pictures of the tv series and know I can't get the image of my fictional Jamie back in my head (who was much better looking). Silly woman!

message 179: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments My Jamie Fraser looks more like this:

message 180: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee Thanks Debra ..
I guess I was wrong in choosing thick books ! I should've went with lighter ones !
I'll give the book store a visit tomorrow and add one or two more books to the list, hopefully they would be lighter than the ones I currently have ..

message 181: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh wow! He is hot hot Janice!!

message 182: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4530 comments Hmmmmm my Jamie always has dark red hair. You're only into the first book, Janice. Wait until your further into the series. He gets better.

message 183: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments @Anna - he is isn't he? Phew! This actor played Kahl Drago in The Game of Thrones. He was in a sc-fi series on tv before that but I can't remember the name of it.

@Roz - I'm on the fence about reading the rest of the series. He gets better? Hmmmm....

I worked for an hour and now I'm eating lunch. This reading until 2:30 in the morning is hard on a person. I'm eager to start my next ebook though.

message 185: by Debra (last edited Oct 18, 2015 11:47AM) (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I'm a sucker for a handsome man with long hair! Phew, is right!

CFDeeDee, you'll get the hang of what books to pick for a toppler. I try to go with fast, easy reads. Sometimes, they aren't the best books, tho.

I just finished The Xibalba Murders which will get a lukewarm review from me. It was a good premise, but I didn't find the writing very compelling.

Now I'm going to read A Quiet Belief in Angels.

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Debra wrote: "I'm a sucker for a handsome man with long hair! Phew, is right!"

My friend says that I like them scruffy. We were talking about Keith Urban at the time. I told her that if that was scruffy, then I'm all over it. I love long hair in men.

message 187: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments My hubby has long hair. Mmmmm

message 188: by Kerri (new)

Kerri Oh Janice I like your version of Jamie so much better, and Keith Urban, drool! I wasn't a huge fan of the first book, but my mum recently 'made' me watch the first few episodes with her and maybe it's grown on me a bit, because I'm considering listening to the 2nd book in the series on audio.
I've finished my second book Blaze which made me sad, not my usual reaction to a Stephen King novel.

message 189: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee @Janice HAHAHAHAHAHAHA .. Now that is some funny cheerleader ! With no nick .. At all !!

@Debra Yeah, looking at the books I already read long ago and you're right! Most of the books I went fast with were cliché !

message 190: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments The one I'm reading now is excellent, but it's NOT going fast. I'm enjoying the ride, tho.

Kahl Drago...he is much better looking IRL. ;)

message 193: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I added an audio this afternoon so I have 2 books going, hope to get at least the real book done by tonight.

I'll be starting Blaze tomorrow. Sai King has certainly made me sad at times. The Dark Tower was heart wrenching in places.

Other than that it made you sad, did you enjoy it?

Are you telling us that you've seen him IRL?? Envious!

message 196: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments As it turns out, when I went back to work after lunch, I discovered my client hadn't given me his bank statement and I couldn't go further with his work. I could have started something for another client, but I decided to take the day off. And READ!

I finished Jhereg, book #2.

Tonight, I will start Jackaby on ebook, and tomorrow I'll start Blaze on audiobook.

I did enjoy it, though it's not at all like other stories of his I've read. It's been years since I read much of King's work and I remember most of it as having much more horror and/or gore in it. I plan to read The Gunslinger next.

message 199: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments I hope you enjoy the series, Kerri. I found the first book to be the weakest, but do persevere. It's an amazing work.
