Team 5 Scrabble Dabble Do
Hello. Nice to see we have a thread already!I can be point tracker, I'm in love with spreadsheets anyway so why not. :)
I will also sign up for cheerleader, I was actually a cheerleader in high school, and my daughter is a cheerleader, so I should be really good at it, LOL!
Name suggestions:Tile Masters
Letter Perfect
Scrabble Dabble Do (just joking)
The first letters of our names add up to 28. Maybe we could do something with that.
Hi team 5, just checking in, this looks like it's going to be fun. I'm happy to be a cheerleader too.
Hi guys! I'll sign up for a cheerleader. I've never been but my daughter coincidentally had a cheer clinic today so she can give me pointers. ;)Dawn, thanks for volunteering for point tracker, I did that once and it's a BIG job!
I love the names Scrabble Dabble Do and Scrabble Squad!

Tasha! We're on the same team for once! I'm not sure about the whole creating a scrabble board with the titles part but the rest of the points I can handle. We'll see how it goes. :)

This will be good. :)

It would be a fun name.
I used a 10 x 10 grid for my example, but please use a 15 x 15 board/grid for part 2. After Part 2 is completed I'm going to have the fruit machine pick some squares for the bonus points, so the boards need to be the same size.
Okay, I've started up a spreadsheet. I'll modify as we get more members and more rules. Janice, maybe you could put the link in one of those first posts you have reserved?? https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
Thanks. :)

Spreadsheet link is in msg 2.
Will you also add the 15 x 15 board to it?
So there are some new things to consider when gophering.1 - Words like a, an, the are excluded from the start of the title
2 - When you read a book, you will receive the points for the first letter.
3 - When a word from your title is plugged into the board, each letter will be totalled.
I think I understand this correctly.
Is it just the first word of the title? As far as on the Scrabble board? I understand the first part, just a little confused about the second part :-)
Janice wrote: "Dawn wrote: "Will you also add the 15 x 15 board to it?..."It's already there. I've put it under a second tab, you'll see it at the bottom.
I agree with your synopsis Janice. First part is based on first letter only and the second part is scoring just like the game.
Just a note:A second reporting thread won't be necessary, we can just use this one. I think it will be easier for me to follow just this one.
And second, don't worry about choosing your books based on the part 2 point system, I don't think it will be worth it. I'll take whatever you read and fit it in the Scrabble board at the end, I'll get us as many points as I can with what we have. No point stressing about it before hand.
Does everyone have an idea how many books they will be able to read?? I'm thinking something along the lines of 5 or 6. I've used up all my short books doing other Topplers and I'm having a hard time finding anything less than 300 pages these days. So I can't read as many as I used to.
Thank you Dawn for making it so easy for us. I was wondering how we were all going to fit our words together on the board at the end. I think I should be able to manage around 5 books, maybe more if I can find some good point scoring audiobooks.

You are awesome at getting this organized!
I will likely read 3 or 4 books. I try to choose books that are short so that I can squeeze more in. Although Outlander is coming up soon, I won't be reading it for the toppler. It's a 33 hour audiobook. LOL!I haven't had much of a chance to gopher. I should have more time in the next little while.
Sounds like we will be the 'steady as she goes' group this time around. Pick big counters and we should do pretty good. Longer first words would be better than shorter ones BTW. If you're trying to decide between books keep in mind that I should be able to get more points out of 5-7 letter words rather than 2-3 letter ones for the Scrabble board points.
I brought Quartet in Autumn from the library last weekend. The Q is 10 points and "quartet" has 7 letters. Not bad. I didn't decide on the second one yet. I have to gopher a little more.
I've been listing titles in my YLTO Member's Zone thread. I've got to go back and do up individual words so that we have an idea about scores for the board.Do we only use first words of titles for the boards? Or can we use any word in the title? Maybe this has already been answered somewhere.
I think, it is only the first word, but that is my interpretation, and I could be completely wrong about that :-)
Just. been nosing at your spreadsheet looking for inspiration. I didn't think there were any double/triple letter spots from the start and that J'mom was using the fruit machine to determine them.
Woooop woooop thought I missed joining in .. Thanks Janice .. I'll be looking through my shelf for good ""title letter score" thingy ;P I hope to find something good !
