Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments Hello. Nice to see we have a thread already!

I can be point tracker, I'm in love with spreadsheets anyway so why not. :)

message 5: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments How about the Scrabble Squad for a name?

message 6: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Hello Team!

I'll sign up for cheerleader. Never did that before and want to try.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Dawn wrote: "How about the Scrabble Squad for a name?"

Sounds good!

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) I will also sign up for cheerleader, I was actually a cheerleader in high school, and my daughter is a cheerleader, so I should be really good at it, LOL!

message 9: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments Name suggestions:

Tile Masters
Letter Perfect
Scrabble Dabble Do (just joking)
The first letters of our names add up to 28. Maybe we could do something with that.

message 10: by Kerri (new)

Kerri Hi team 5, just checking in, this looks like it's going to be fun. I'm happy to be a cheerleader too.

message 11: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Hi guys! I'll sign up for a cheerleader. I've never been but my daughter coincidentally had a cheer clinic today so she can give me pointers. ;)

Dawn, thanks for volunteering for point tracker, I did that once and it's a BIG job!

I love the names Scrabble Dabble Do and Scrabble Squad!

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments Tasha! We're on the same team for once!

I'm not sure about the whole creating a scrabble board with the titles part but the rest of the points I can handle. We'll see how it goes. :)

message 14: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I know!! I'm so excited about that!!

message 15: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I feel like we haven't touched base in so long. Now we will have a week of doing just that! ;)

message 16: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I quite like Scrabble Dabble Do myself.

I know, we're off doing our different things and don't end up in the same threads much!
This will be good. :)

message 18: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments Janice wrote: "I quite like Scrabble Dabble Do myself."

We should go with this one.

It would be a fun name.

message 20: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I've changed the thread title to match.

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) Oh good! I really like that name :-)

message 22: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I used a 10 x 10 grid for my example, but please use a 15 x 15 board/grid for part 2. After Part 2 is completed I'm going to have the fruit machine pick some squares for the bonus points, so the boards need to be the same size.

message 23: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments Okay, I've started up a spreadsheet. I'll modify as we get more members and more rules.

Janice, maybe you could put the link in one of those first posts you have reserved?? https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
Thanks. :)

Spreadsheet link is in msg 2.

Will you also add the 15 x 15 board to it?

message 25: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments So there are some new things to consider when gophering.

1 - Words like a, an, the are excluded from the start of the title

2 - When you read a book, you will receive the points for the first letter.

3 - When a word from your title is plugged into the board, each letter will be totalled.

I think I understand this correctly.

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) Is it just the first word of the title? As far as on the Scrabble board? I understand the first part, just a little confused about the second part :-)

message 27: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments Janice wrote: "Dawn wrote: "Will you also add the 15 x 15 board to it?..."

It's already there. I've put it under a second tab, you'll see it at the bottom.

message 28: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments I agree with your synopsis Janice. First part is based on first letter only and the second part is scoring just like the game.

message 29: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments Just a note:
A second reporting thread won't be necessary, we can just use this one. I think it will be easier for me to follow just this one.

And second, don't worry about choosing your books based on the part 2 point system, I don't think it will be worth it. I'll take whatever you read and fit it in the Scrabble board at the end, I'll get us as many points as I can with what we have. No point stressing about it before hand.

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) Perfect! Works for me :-)
And thanks in advance!

message 31: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments Does everyone have an idea how many books they will be able to read??

I'm thinking something along the lines of 5 or 6. I've used up all my short books doing other Topplers and I'm having a hard time finding anything less than 300 pages these days. So I can't read as many as I used to.

message 32: by Kerri (new)

Kerri Thank you Dawn for making it so easy for us. I was wondering how we were all going to fit our words together on the board at the end. I think I should be able to manage around 5 books, maybe more if I can find some good point scoring audiobooks.

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) That's about what I think I will do around five maybe more, we will see :-)

message 34: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments I think I should be able to read at least 2. It'll depend upon the length of the books.

message 35: by Tasha (new)

You are awesome at getting this organized!

message 36: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I'll most likely read 3, maybe 4.

message 37: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I will likely read 3 or 4 books. I try to choose books that are short so that I can squeeze more in. Although Outlander is coming up soon, I won't be reading it for the toppler. It's a 33 hour audiobook. LOL!

I haven't had much of a chance to gopher. I should have more time in the next little while.

message 38: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Thank you for the spreadsheet, Dawn!

I expect to read 2. I'll read more if I can, of course!

message 39: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments Sounds like we will be the 'steady as she goes' group this time around.

Pick big counters and we should do pretty good. Longer first words would be better than shorter ones BTW. If you're trying to decide between books keep in mind that I should be able to get more points out of 5-7 letter words rather than 2-3 letter ones for the Scrabble board points.

message 40: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments I brought Quartet in Autumn from the library last weekend. The Q is 10 points and "quartet" has 7 letters. Not bad.
I didn't decide on the second one yet. I have to gopher a little more.

message 41: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Good tip, Dawn. I will go back and see what I have.

Nice one, Sandra!

message 42: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Don't forget that short words can be good fillers and joiners.

message 43: by Janice, Moderator (new)

message 45: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I've been listing titles in my YLTO Member's Zone thread. I've got to go back and do up individual words so that we have an idea about scores for the board.

Do we only use first words of titles for the boards? Or can we use any word in the title? Maybe this has already been answered somewhere.

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) I think, it is only the first word, but that is my interpretation, and I could be completely wrong about that :-)

message 47: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Just. been nosing at your spreadsheet looking for inspiration. I didn't think there were any double/triple letter spots from the start and that J'mom was using the fruit machine to determine them.

message 48: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee Woooop woooop thought I missed joining in .. Thanks Janice .. I'll be looking through my shelf for good ""title letter score" thingy ;P I hope to find something good !

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I just popped in to wish you all a good night. I went to the movie with friends (The Intern) and I'm zonked! See you in the morning.
