Bill How time flies. It seems we just started reading the Sep/ Oct Reading Group books. Well, nominations are now open for the Oct/Nov Group Read. You may nominate a book between now and Oct 8th. Voting will start the 9th and will run through the 13th. Once a winner is decided, threads for the group reads will be posted.

-- the fine print: Please read before you start nominating.

General rules for Group Reads nominations:

1) Important: If your nomination wins, you will be the discussion moderator. Please do not nominate a book unless you're willing to do this. NOTE: If a book you've nominated in the past won and you did not participate in the discussion, we will NOT consider your nominations in the future. Sorry to be hardcore on this, but it's happened a few times now within the last year.

2) One (1) nomination only per person. (You don't have to second nominations, all approved nominations will be added to the poll)
Please read this next sentence carefully: Neither self-nominations by authors nor nominations by their respective publishers or publicist will be accepted.

3) Do not cheat or manipulate results. It is not acceptable to create fake accounts to nominate books or vote in polls and it is not acceptable to invite people to the site for the sole purpose of nominating a book or voting for a book in a poll. It is not acceptable to ask for votes or influence the poll in any way. If the moderators feel that a group read poll has been manipulated, the book in question will be disqualified. If the moderators feel that the user(s) are fake accounts, these will be reported to Goodreads for further review.

4) Please do not repeat an author we have read in the last year. Check out the group bookshelf here https://www.goodreads.com/group/books... if you're not sure.

5) For your nomination please include Title, Author and Link (Use the "add book/author" link at the top of the comment box).

6) Since we are an international group, please check to make sure the book is readily available in more than one format. The last thing we want is to nominate a book that no one can get.

7) Finally, a word about series - Please consider whether the book you are nominating would be best read by someone who has read all the previous books in the series, or if it can be enjoyed by someone new to the series too.

Have fun!

The_Paperback_Peruser (paperback_peruser) | 82 comments I would like to nominate Strangers on a Train by Patricia Highsmith.

It is one of the best psychological dramas ever written. Although, Hitchcock made a really good movie with this story, the book is hundred times better and completely different.

message 4: by Madeline (new)

Madeline McEwen | 8 comments Love Patricia Highsmith, although I don't think I've read Strangers on a Train. I'd like to nominate The Secret Place by Tana French. Lots of twists and turns.

We have read a Patricia Highsmith as one of our group reads this year and as I look through our Buddy reads, Nancy chose it as one of the Noir selections there. Can you think of another book to nominate?

message 14: by Icewineanne (new)

Icewineanne | 349 comments From Doon With Death by Ruth Rendell. She's such a terrific writer but since I've never read any of her Wexford books, I'd really enjoy reading this as a group. It's a nice short read :-)

From Doon With Death (Inspector Wexford, #1) by Ruth Rendell . From Doon With Death

Madeline - sorry for not noticing this sooner, but we read The Secret Place as a group read late last year. Do you have another nomination?

Linda | 10 comments Happy to see that Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter made it to the top. Looking forward to that one. Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier is an oldy but a goody and may open doors to the next generation of readers.

Nancy Oakes (quinnsmom) | 10110 comments Mod
I prefer to think of Rebecca as timeless, rather than "an oldy." If you really read it closely, there's a LOT going on in that book.

message 29: by Bill (new)

Bill I just finished Rebecca after many years of avoiding it (consciously or unconsciously). I was amazed. Excellent book.

I was the same. I put off reading it for years and ended up giving it an enthusiastic five-star rating.

message 31: by Bill (new)

Bill Great minds, eh?.. :). A nice mix of the classic and new for the Oct/ Nov group reads. I hope everyone enjoys.

message 32: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea Humphrey (suspensethrill) I could not be more excited about the choices! I may or may not have started Pretty Girls a few days ago in hopes of it making the cut this month!

message 33: by Bill (new)

Bill Smart move or not.. ;)... I hope you enjoy them both.
