Jan | 534 comments In this case there is only one version that is free on audible - the one narrated by John Lee. But there are others that are 1.99 or 2.99 for the whipsersync price if you want a different narrator.

Some big names contribute, and the audiobook is over 20 hours long.

donna backshall (dtamayob) | 64 comments Kathy, I listened to The Butterfly Garden, but did not take the time to review. (sorry!) While violence, language and gore are not off-putting for me (I dig a great horror novel), I feel the need to warn you of how very dark this thriller is. It's not any one thing, it's the scenery, the situations, the bleakness of it all that can bring down the most optimistic of readers. It's a compelling and intriguing story, but just know before you buy that it's solidly a downer. Also worth noting is that there are two readers, one for the girl and one for the detective. They read sections, so they often have to portray the other character and when they do, they perform each others' voices dramatically differently. I didn't enjoy how that worked out, but it wasn't a real detraction from my overall enjoyment of the book.

Thank you so much, Donna, for letting me know. This doesn't sound like a read I'll rush right into. I've had it on my Kindle, but it's time to move it to the cloud. Thanks again.

Thanks for the info. I have been wondering about this book. I usually like dark books, but I haven't gotten around to it.

https://www.amazon.com/Story-American...

I love Amazon's Whispersync technology for a book like this. I could read the occasional French phrases and hear them spoken at the same time. Other French-speaking reviewers have commented on the flawless French spoken by the narrator, Lucy Floyd, so I knew I was hearing everything spoken correctly.

Sterling (sterlingf) | -24 comments Father of Lies is on sale for .99 and the Audible narration is $1.99. This is a Dark Occult Horror trilogy. Father of Lies is the first in the series. I really liked this series and Father of Lies was my favorite book in the trilogy. If you like horror novels I highly recommend this book. The Audible narration is excellent I would definitely recommend adding it on.

Thanks Samuel! I decided to get Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk. I didn't realize Oliver Wyman is the narrator...one of my faves.

Samuel (montsamu) | 50 comments Nice! Wyman has been a long favorite of mine: Pohl's Gateway, VanderMeer's Finch, Swanwick's Stations of the Tide, and Sanderson's Legion are 4 of my favorites of his. What are some of yours?

I guess I was mixing him up with another narrator (Fisher Stevens), who narrated A Dirty Job. I have heard Wyman narrate the first two Monster Hunters International books. The books weren't for me, but the narration was good.

I read the ebook and enjoyed it. You may want to listen to a sample of the audio, though. The narrator sounded ok, but did make a lot of breathe noises which may bother some people.

The problem isn't when you borrow from KU, it's when you borrow from the public library. I've assumed that the whispersync link has been discontinued.

I've noticed the same problem--not with books in KU. Are KU books available through libraries?

message 297: by Audible Support (new)

Audible Support (audible_com) | 260 comments At this time, this feature is not available for books borrowed through a public library. If the audiobook is purchased at regular price or with a membership credit, you will be able to sync the book with the e-book if it has the Whispersync for Voice feature listed with the book. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. ^BF
