I read a book in 2009 which I loved which was called ''THE CURSE OF THE ----'' and I've obviously forgotten the name of the ship. It was a cursed ship which was doomed to sail the world (yes, like the Flying Dutchman) and had something to do with an OCTOPUS. Book entirely written in fascinating poetry style, and written after 1980s for sure. Thanks!

OKAY! I finally discovered, by looking through some old journals of mine, that the book is...THE VOYAGE OF THE ARCTIC TERN! Now I do recommend you all read it!
