I've actually read the first three books of the series, and to be honest, I didn't like them much! I've really liked all the other books I've read by Tamora Pierce, though, so I'm giving Alanna another shot. I think she just didn't fit into my headspace at the time I was reading, because I enjoyed the first book a lot more the second time through. It's funny how your point of view can change over time!

Lulu (robotwitch) | 65 comments Since I've had a personal setback, my reading has been a bit slow recently. I finished Piercing last week, which was excellent if not very intense.

I'm still slowly chipping away at Frankenstein but it has, sadly, yet to pull me in, as well as The Bridge of San Luis Rey on audiobook, which has no central narrative really, making it hard to be excited to pick it up.

I started Speak by Louisa Hall today - it came out earlier in the summer, got great reviews, and seems a bit different. I don't often read epistolary novels, especially SF ones, but I love them, so this is nice.

I'm hoping to start The Glass Bead Game this week, also.

Justine (justine_ao) | 636 comments I finished Supersymmetry...it was OK but not as good as it's predecessor, Superposition. Next I finished We are all Completely Beside Ourselves, which I found surprisingly good, but I still don't really understand the SF connection that got it nominated for both a Nebula and a Campbell. I'm now reading The Broken Kingdom, the second book of The Inheritance Trilogy.

Christine | 637 comments I finished Champion which I recommend to all. Now I'm reading shortstories as I travel home after a 3 1/2 week adventure in the South Pacific and Indian oceans

Whoa, nice! Hope it was as wonderful (the vacation) as it sounds.

Juliana Just finished Seveneves, which I really enjoyed. Now I'm onto the Hundred Thousand Kingdoms, Book 1 in the Inheritance Trilogy...I'm liking it so far.

Justine (justine_ao) | 636 comments I finished The Broken Kingdoms - a nice continuation of The Inheritance Trilogy - and I'm now reading Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky.

Lulu (robotwitch) | 65 comments Finished We Have Always Lived in the Castle, my first Shirley Jackson, today after reading it in two sittings. It was delightfully creepy and it chilled me, as Merricat would say! A solid 4.5 stars.

Still plugging away at all my other books. Hoping to finish one of them before the weekend is out.

Lindsay | 17 comments Reread The Broken Kingdoms. Still my favorite book of this series. My Review.

Read Kraken. Amazing language. Horrible novel. My Review.

Read Children of Time. Makes you care about a race of uplifted spiders and does it very well. My Review.

Currently reading Sunset Mantle.

Lulu (robotwitch) | 65 comments I finished Of Sorrow and Such in one sitting this afternoon, and it was lovely. A great read with quite a bit going on plot-wise but still a strong concentration on the characters and their relationships (romantic or otherwise - mostly otherwise). I'm definitely going to try and get to her collections of short stories set in the same world soon.

Highly recommended.

Ken (ogi8745) | 1430 comments Finished Leviathan Wakes last night.
The book, for me was Meh, It was good till Holden and Miller met up then it felt like the authors didnt know where to go with it.
Not sure if I plan on the second book or not.

Started another Vlad Taltos book
Tiassa

Tani | 132 comments I finished Squire by Tamora Pierce last night, and I was quite happy with it. I think that Kel is such a great main character, and I love following her adventures. I'm going to be reading Lady Knight next so that I can finish off my adventures with her.

I just started The Girl with All the Gifts in anticipation of next month's read. I guess that's tomorrow :) I'm about a quarter of the way through and completely sucked in!

message 68: by Tani (new)

Tani | 132 comments I finished up Lady Knight by Tamora Pierce this morning. Loved it! I think Kel is my favorite of Tamora Pierce's characters.

I'm starting in on Reaper's Gale now.
