After some delay, I finally got around to this part.
Annnnd I'm totally relieved. Sometimes I feel that when things are loved by everyone you respect and other people besides, it can put a lot of pressure on. As a fan of genre, to have this huge genre name who is revered in genre...I was scared. What if I didn't like him? What if all my previous failed attempts weren't because I was starting in the wrong place/felt lost, but because he didn't suit me?
He suits me. This book is funny, clever while being silly (I think I mentioned that previously, but it's one of my favourite kinds of humour), the characters are ace, and the plot is fun.
I'm excited to see where the rest of this goes. I know that this and The Light Fantastic, book #2, are really one book split into two, though, so I guess that this one has no real satisfactory ending.

When I first read a Discworld book, I didn't know how popular they were. I only had one friend who was a fan, so I never experienced the pressure like so much of our group might be. There have been a couple I started and haven't finished. I struggle more with the Watch books because I've always favored wizards and odd characters like Death.

Yeah, that would be probably helpful, not to know their status as one of the most beloved series in fantasy (or close to, at least).
I can definitely understand that - although my interest in the Watch has been piqued by the tavern brawl.

The interconnectivity of all the characters throughout the series is what excites me the most about reading these books. It's such a great way to get more backstory about characters and to have them grow in depth without having to info dump huge chunks into every novel. I'm SO excited to see how these characters change and grow.
What are you impressions of the second part of the book? What do you like/not like? If this is a reread, have you picked up on anything you didn't the first time around?
