Since it's October, I'm reading some seasonal (scary) books. I'm listening to Stephen's King's Lisey's Story and recently read a book of short stories by Margo Lanagan called Red Spikes. The library labeled it "horror," but most of the stories were more in the fantasy to dark fantasy genre; still enjoyable. I'm also dipping into a story collection by Neil Gaiman called Smoke and Mirrors while reading other things. I just finished A Man Called Ove by Fredrick Backman, which is decidedly not scary but very sweet (a book club selection). Earlier this month I listened to the audio version of The Martian when my library hold became available just as the movie was released, so I could compare the two. I also finally read a book I'd been meaning to get to for a long time, All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. That was one of the best books I've read in a long time and one I'd like to reread.
Finished Fates and Furies, and was underwhelmed. The story was fine, but I disliked the author's prose style. It was very fragmented and purple. I am listening to Angelmaker, reading the hardcover of Finders Keepers, the paperback of The Devil's Highway: A True Story, and I have The Redemption of Galen Pike on my Kindle. I am enjoying all so far.
      I'm reading

. I understand from others that the second have of the book is incredible, hoping so because so far the story has been very disjointed and I'm losing interest.

I have a whole new collection of books on the go now, completely changed from when I posted earlier. Now I'm in the middle of We That Are Left by Clare Clark, Famous Baby by Karen Rizzo, and at the beginning of The Resurrectionist by Jack O'Connell.

UPDATE/MINI REVIEWS:
I Married You for Happiness was as awful as expected. Do not recommend. Hated both characters all the way through and the ending was bizarre and annoying.
Breathing Lessons was a decent audiobook, even though Maggie, the wife, made me want to throw things at her. Very disappointed in the ending, but after reading reviews I discovered this is typical of Tyler's style. Will try her again but after I finish a few others.
Loved Harold Fry, and also discovered the companion book, The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy, which tells the story of the woman Harold's pilgrimage revolves around. Didn't like that one nearly as much, as Queenie was rather insipid and needy (sense a pattern here? Haha) but the characters at the hospice were charming and made the book much more enjoyable. If you like HF, try this one too. Reviewers seem to love it or hate it. I also slid in The Status of All Things, which is a lighthearted, quick read for anyone with a social media fixation. Some valuable life lessons in this one!
Currently I am listening to (and very much enjoying so far) A Window Opens--BOTNS recommendation--and alternating between reading The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry and The Green Road. Really liking both even though I'm not far on either yet!

I have it on audio and have listened to quite a bit that way and I have also had it out f..."Haha, me too! Between the ever-present audiobook for my commute, at least 3 library books and a different Kindle book on each of 3 devices, my currently reading list is nuts! Perhaps my 2016 goal will be to focus on my TBR list and stop adding to it. (Yeah, right....)
I am currently readingStarted Early, Took My Dog for book club and The Bees. Next up is Fates and Furies and City on Fire, a long one. Two books I read recently and LOVED were Did You Ever Have a Family and A Thousand Acres.

I read the The Ice Princess by Camilla Lackberg, Treacherous Beauty: Peggy Shippen, the Woman behind Benedict Arnold's Plot to Betray America and am now reading Without You, There Is No Us: My Time with the Sons of North Korea's Elite. I am listening to The Handmaid's Tale.

I think I might just get through the first half of the book before I have to turn it back in to the library (curse the person who has it on hold). But that will give me a 3 week break to read something else.
I impulsively decided to listen to Landline at work via Overdrive.com. I didn't realize they had a streaming listen feature that doesn't require an app or downloads. I may never talk to my coworkers again! Haha. So far I like the book. Several of my friends are big Rainbow Rowell fans.

I just finished Celeste Ng's Everything I Never Told You. VERY VERY good. Started a nonfiction book that is so far very enticing: The Empathy Exams: Essays. It won a Graywolf Press award (local and fantastic Twin Cities publisher!) and I picked it up at the Twin Cities Book Festial on Oct. 17.

Just finished Bird Box--really a great Halloween read, although I didn't love the ending. Just finished "A Land More Kind Than Home" by Wiley Cash. Really loved it.
Working on "Moby Dick" for my community's 'one book'.
Listening to "City On Fire" based on BOTNS recommendation. Highly recommend it for anyone who liked "Bonfire of the Vanities" or the original, "Vanity Fair". It's wonderful!

Are you in the US? I think it is not on sale yet here or am I mistaken? I want to pick it up when I go to the UK tomorrow.
