Byron | 64 comments Wasn't quite certain where to place this, but anywho, as the topic title says, I am currently in need of a talented editor. I am looking to partner with someone capable of not only fixing errors, but offer suggestions/advice on plot, structure, and flow.

If anyone has a recommendation for a client or friend, or would like to offer their own services, please get back to me @ my email: Beejag@gmail.com. Thanks!

I think John Robin has a good editor. Check with him, he might be able to make a suggestion.

Rick Heinz (crankybolt) | 72 comments You looking for a real editor or just some beta readers? I.e. paid vs non paid.

message 4: by Byron (new)

Byron | 64 comments Probably Beta-readers at the moment. I don't think the book is quite ready to fully partner with someone. I'm in the process of an extensive re-write of the first 9 chapters, and looking for readers to gauge the quality after the update.

Byron | 64 comments I would love to offer pay for a full-time editor, but unfortunately my budget is limited, and a good chunk of it has gone to a new cover and additional artwork.

I'll beta read for you if you beta read for me :)

Ideally, I would be one of your beta readers, not *the* beta reader. I've never done it before so I'm not sure how long it will take me or how good my feedback will be, but I'd love to give it a try!

Byron | 64 comments That would be wonderful. I'll have the prologue updated on the page sometime today, after I go over spelling and little tweaks. Hopefully I can get into a schedule of 1-2 chapters every few days, and have the rewritten draft up by the end of next week or the beginning of the following week. And of course, I'm glad to return the service! Is there a particular method you prefer? I can just do a read through and type up notes per chapter, or print a copy and scan the changes made to page.

That sounds good to me! I like the idea of notes since I'm not ready for copy editing yet.

I'll send you a PM with my email so we can coordinate further.

Jemimah Brewster (oddfeather) Hi there,

If you're looking for another beta reader I'd be happy to help. I studied editing and have often given feedback in an editor role before, both copy editing for grammar and spelling and substantive editing for plot, flow etc. I've edited poetry, short stories, long stories and a 'zine, so have quite a broad feel for different kinds of writing.

Feel free to contact me :)

~ Jemma

John Robin (john_robin) | 299 comments Thank for mentioning me Joe -- Byron, looks like you've got your needs met, but just in case you are ever looking for input or other angles (and I guess I'll put this here for general purposes of hanging a shingle to the group), I own an editing business and have just transitioned to the role of senior editor. I actually just brought in my present editor to the company for structural/developmental editing tasks, and will be looking at hiring a copyeditor ASAP. If you ever need professional editing, drop me a line and we can discuss, but please note that this is editing designed for Indie authors looking for final stage editing before publication. It will cost a lot more than what you might be looking for if you just want input and some editing on your book.

Alternatively, I want to tell you about the Author Accelerator program, which has its own list of editors. It's also great for coaching as your draft if you have that in your budget.

http://www.authoraccelerator.com

Basically, every week you submit 10 pages of your draft in progress and get professional editorial feedback to make sure your story moves forward. I've had this for Blood Dawn since the beginning of last September and it's led to a book that is easily 3 times stronger than the third (my previous) novel I wrote. In fact, I'm so convinced of it's strength in producing a solid first draft (for me, personally) that I will be hiring this coaching service on the sequel to Blood Dawn, and likely everything I write.

Anyone wants to find out more about any of this please email me: johnrobinrt@gmail.com and I'll be happy to tell you more.

Jeanne Bannon (goodreadscomjbannon) I've worked in the publishing industry for over twenty-five years, first as a freelance journalist, then as an in-house editor for LexisNexis. I currently work as a freelance editor and writer and am looking to take on new clients.

However, I'm not just an editor, I'm an author as well so I understand both sides of the process. My promise is to stand by your side to provide expert service at a reasonable price. Making a living as an author is not an easy gig and it shouldn’t be any harder than it has to be.

Elan (bonbonelan) Suggestions re: beta readers / writing group.

I took part in the Brandon Sanderson "WriteAboutDragons" online writers group, and it was amazing. I benefitted tremendously from participating in the writing group, and wrote some pretty awesome stuff (if I can be permitted a moment of ego) with the support of that group.

I recommend either using Google Groups to post chapters/scenes for peer review, or moving to a different forum. While Goodreads offers a decent forum, (I think) it's not nearly good enough to serve as the home of a writing or beta reading group. Another benefit of Google groups (or another forum) is that you can make your work private, which you may want to do.

Grace Horton (GraceHorton) | 1 comments hi my name is Grace, I am new to this group and am already enjoying reading posts and comments as it can be a totally daunting writing a book, then to find a editor you trust can be even harder. I have found at times the more feedback you receive the more confusing the task becomes as everyone has different ideas and it seems to me we have to sometimes go with our hearts and take on board what we believe will improve our work. I am no expert but I am learning more each day. If Byron reads this I just wanted to know what kind of book you are writing.
