SOLVED. Two books part of a seris featuring strong African American teens. Series was the name of their high school. [s]

Each book was about a different person. The first was a boy who was living with his grandmother, and tell his mother returned and he went to live with her and his stepfather and his half sister.(view spoiler)[Stepfather was a pervert who was molesting his sister later step father dies in a fire. Second book was about a girl who had an inappropriate relationship with a teacher.(view spoiler)[ At some point he tries to force himself on her but she successfully fights him off. (hide spoiler)]

I thought the name of the series was hemery high, but a search on that only turned up information on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

It sounds like Hazelwood High, but the second book - appears to be about the boy whose half sister was abused by her father. The third book in the series, is about a high school senior who gets involved with a coach. There is a book in the series that comes before these two:
