M (LuckyCupcake) | 5 comments I read this book in high school in 1986. Fantasy, Hobbit-like book. It had to do with two friends in a village where they were the outcasts for being different... they didn't conform to what the other Hobbit-like people were supposed to act like. One had a green door and one had a crimson door.
The villagers or main characters begin to hear the "tap tap tap" of their enemies chipping their way through the mountain, closer to the protected valley where the village rests.
Somehow the outcast friends have to go on a mission of some sort to get help before the "bad guys" have tapped their way through the mountain.
Hope you can help! :)

Lsophia | 162 comments The most derivative hobbit-like heroes that I can think of come from Dennis L. McKiernan's books.

The ones I read back in the day features hobbit-like creatures known as Werrows. The books included:

The Dark Tide
Shadows of Doom
The Darkest Day

Trek to Kraggen-Cor
The Brega Path

Good luck!
