There is trouble in Nezza. They have never liked adventurers and magic. Skeld and a company of adventurers are captured in Nezza and put in the dungeons of Karmus. In an act of desperation Skeld sends a letter to his friend, Wizard Alexander Taylor, for help to escape the dungeon. The setting of this book is enormous. The author tells the audience the situation in Nezza, how the people of Nezza are afraid of magic and how the have been taught that magic can only be used for evil, that nothing good can come from magic. He tells us the objective of the adventure, which if they could succeed could end the conflict. Without the audience knowing the setting of the story no one would know the problems of Nezza. The conflict in the story is, Magnus the evil wizard is trying to take over Nezza. He kills the lords of the inner kingdoms and has the inner kingdoms believing the outer kingdom and taken there lords and taken them captive. Magnus is the reason behind the trouble but is not the mastermind of the whole plan as he works for The Brotherhood, which has bigger plans, but needs Nezza in control before they can move forward. The conflict has the story excited and wanting you to know what happens next. I really enjoyed this book. It has me wanting to know what happens next in the story. The job the author does in keeping the readers guessing on what is going to happen next is very good. It has given me a exciting adventure to read and makes my mind think and makes me feel like I am in the book going along in the adventure. He shows a lot of the characters personalities, he shares how the characters state of body language is and gives me a better understanding of how that character is feeling. This book is very well done and would highly recommend this series to anyone who would like a burst of excitement to the reading.
