I absolutely hated this book. I had no interest in it whatsoever. I mean, who the heck let's TWELVE YEAR OLDS bathe people!
And his father shoved a needle through a child's head!!!
WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE??
And guess where I read this!
SCHOOL!!
GO FIGURE!!!

Ivy_359 Dystopia man, dystopia

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

I know what dystopia is. I actually like dystopia. Just this one I absolutely hated.

My sentiments exactly.

Am I the only one who wanted to punch the writer in the face?

Carrie Oh I hated the book. I woulda punched the author too. It was terrible all around.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

Same

Cheshire Cat [Heidi]~ We're All Mad Here ~ I rather liked the book, no offense to you and your opinions.

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

Meh. It ok. I just hated it. Really I did.
*gags*
Have fun with the book.

Cheshire Cat [Heidi]~ We're All Mad Here ~ That's ok. We all have different opinions. I'm assuming you didn't see the movie, then?

Joanne L I just didn't like this book AT ALL and it was kinda weird...
I'd rather the book than the movie because the movie just messed things up and it was horrible. The actors and actresess just seemed really old

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

No I haven't

Derek I'm with MGH101, really wanted to punch the writer after reading this one.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

Haha
high five!!
*puts up hand*

Derek Definite high five!

Dhfan4life To be honest I don't even recall the majority of the book other than the Giver giving the boy the memories of actual experiences and events that meant so much. That those in their world had no capacity for of any more. And that the boy ran off with the baby. Everything in between is unmemorable to me.

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

Me neither

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

AND YAS DEREK YAS

Derek Exactly, other than being annoyed at the end, you would WANT to forget this story.

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

I know right.

Derek Hellsyes.

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

Haha

random name They destroyed the movie to be honest, and I personally loved this book. But if you hated it, why'd you rate it two stars? Isn't two stars "it's okay"? Or that's three, I can't remember.

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

The only part I kinda liked was when he saw color.
And the plot was good. But the writer was just bad at writing

random name Ouch. I love her writing too, but as that other person said, we all have different opinions.

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

That makes sense

My thoughts exactly lol

Haha

If you do realize, many love it. You probably want to punch the author, but many want to pat him on the back.

Personally, I didn't like it that much. I've written in detail about it in my review. I have friends who like it, and I can't go tell them, "This book is trash! Only a complete idiot would like it." That would be both unethical as well as prejudicial. We all have different opinions.

random name It's a girl.

Cheshire Cat [Heidi]~ We're All Mad Here ~ Really? For some reason, I thought the author was a boy... But it's been a long time since I've read it.

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

haha

Afke Huldrike I really liked the book actually. I like to read about other worlds (dystopias) and I thought this was a pretty good one. It's just really different and they think really different than us. But that's what I like about it.

Cheshire Cat [Heidi]~ We're All Mad Here ~ I thought the movie was kind of strange. I was like, "When did they say that the place was a floating island shaped like a butterfly? When did they say that they clapped by patting their legs?" They didn't say that. They never said that.

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

Haha
A floating island shaped like a..... butterfly!?

XD

Joanne L Heidi: Did the book say that? (Island looking like a butterfly and clapping by patting their legs?)

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

I know right! That's why I was confused. I don't remember anyone even saying it was an island

message 38: by Hec (new) - rated it 4 stars

Hec Hernandez I loved the book. The movie was great too. Im currently reading the second one. If you want to talk about bad plots and writing it would be the second book. Its really boring but i really wanna finish it, hey maybe it'll turn out okay i dont know

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

haha

Ivy_359 Keep on reading Hec! I love the fourth one.

Calvina I didn't hate it...but I did't love it. They only word i have to describe it is "Weird".

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)

HA

Cheshire Cat [Heidi]~ We're All Mad Here ~ just_love_laugh_read :D wrote: "Heidi: Did the book say that? (Island looking like a butterfly and clapping by patting their legs?)"

No. The book did not say that. Shame on you, movie makers. Shame on you.

random name
Haha, I didn't even watch the movie. The trailer made me sick. Uhm, explicitly the book said he was 13. In the movie, he's like 18. Then he's riding a motorcycle... in the book, he's riding a bike. Then the romance... the red haired girl (sorry, I forgot her name) did not even like Jonas. The movie was so messed up.

message 45: by [deleted user] (new)

Movies always JAK things up.

Joanne L Heidi: Ikr, i don't get with movie makers...

message 47: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm listenin to meh Pandora

message 48: by Seth (new) - rated it 2 stars

Seth Odell Ok, sure some of lois lowrys books are but this one is plain boring.

Jaiden Dickamore Yeah, some parts in the book seemed to drag on for forever. The book was pretty screwed up and some stuff that most people don't want to read.

message 50: by [deleted user] (new)

IKR!!!!
I mean like you know what Nike says....
"The product speaks for itself."

(.... I don't even know what I'm tryin to say XD)
