message 1: by Anne (new)

Anne | 85 comments I got a $75 Amazon gift certificate on Tuesday, I won it in our school's raffle for prom, and one of my coworkers comes up to me today and asks what I was going to buy with it.
Our conversation went like this:
Me - It's already gone.
Her - Seriously, already? On what?
Me - Books.
Her - *dumbfounded* You spent $75 on books....
Me - Yes! It was perfect; I got so many titles I've been dying to read. I kinda want to stay in all weekend and veg with my iPad!
Her - Wow.... Um.... Seriously? You'd rather stay in and read over your weekend off?
Me - *dumbfounded* There are other ways to spend a weekend?

She didn't understand my excitement! Free money to spend on books! How can someone not be excited for that?!?! lol

Dawn Ireland (goodreadscomdawn_ireland) | 50 comments Ahhhh, $75 to spend on books. Heaven. Just feel sorry for the unenlightened.

lol! It is so easy to spend $75 on books!

message 4: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Definitely my idea of heaven... even better would be if someone (ie hubby) would take the kids away for said weekend off and I had the gift card to spend on new books - "priceless"

message 5: by Sydney (new)

Sydney Wallace | 27 comments I understand completely. :)

Paganalexandria | 354 comments Anne, that is definitely a book nerd problem. Before getting an ereader I used to say , "some girls want diamonds, I would rather have a gift card for Half Price Bookstore." I am still having a hard time with getting my family to understand why I would rather have an Amazon card versus presents for holidays and birthdays. It was much easier when people could see the physical thing they bought you.

Elisabet Salas (life_of_lizz) | 3 comments Have a kindle/ereader with a sh*t ton of books but also having a small library that is still expanding

Oh and cheap or dollar book stores are your weakness

message 8: by Sydney (new)

Sydney Wallace | 27 comments Talking about characters in books as if they were real people.

message 9: by Anne (new)

Anne | 85 comments Haha I knew you all would understand!!

How about - Buying new books cause you've gone through your overflowing Kindle library and thought, "There's nothing here I'm in the mood to read, right now." The same way people stare into an full fridge thinking, "There's nothing to eat."

Definitely...

What about when people visiting your house for the first time, seeing all your overflowing bookshelves, and they give you "THAT LOOK" before asking, "Have you read all those books." Always makes for feel like a weirdo...

message 11: by Fifth Horseman (new)

Fifth Horseman (fifthhorseman) Keeping an in depth record of all the books you've ever read, organized by genre, then author, then series, and then having that accidentally deleted. Oh God, I'd rather lose my phone.

Paganalexandria | 354 comments Feeling a little guilty for the emotional affairs you keep having with your multiple book boyfriends, that your significant other is completely unaware of. LOL

I keep my nerd soul mate hubby's kindle and amazon gift card stocked so he doesn't get too mad about my excessive time reading and on GR.

Had to turn down all the book boyfriend requests... Way too dangerous for me... For women, our brain is our biggest sex organ, LOL.

message 15: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t yea we're book nerds because none of us understand how she could think to do anything else with it

message 17: by Anne (new)

Anne | 85 comments Getting annoyed when someone doesn't read a book fast enough ( or at all) for you cause you REALLY want to talk about it with someone!!

I loan books to my best friend and then she doesn't read them... I get so sad cause I want her to love them the way I do!! Lol

This also goes with the frustration that you are apparently the only person participating in a group read because no one else post on the thread. You are chomping at the bit for some feedback beside your on.

My husband cringes when we go by a bookstore. He knows the question will be,"Can we go in? We don't have to stay for long." I have no idea why he raises an eyebrow and refuses to believe me.

That's why I joined GR. Most of my friends, who also have kids, think romances are a waste of time :( Guilty pleasure sure, but never a waste.

message 27: by Anne (new)

I think I've purchased "A Knight in Shining Armor" five times to give to friends because I think that if I get it for them, they'll have to read it. Part of the time the ploy works and we have great discussions.

message 30: by Anne (new)

Anne | 85 comments My kindle library is overflowing. Lol Every time I check the "free or great book deals" tag, my mind says.... Well, it's only 99 cents. Haha

I prefer to have a paper copy of all my favorites, but I have started getting ebook backups of some of my desert island keepers.

I meet a lot of book snobs in real life. Honestly, I don't meet that many avid readers in real life.

I do that myself. When I had more time, I would reread my favorite scenes from books.

message 37: by Anne (new)

I'm a complete addict of this series!

Paganalexandria | 354 comments I just experienced a total book nerd moment. My kindle was misplaced all day, and it produced way more anxiety than replacing my phone. All i could think of about was all the private notes on hundreds of books, that I lost. Plus I had two reviews to write using said notes.

Aura (fallen_carolina) | 23 comments Anne wrote: "Getting annoyed when someone doesn't read a book fast enough ( or at all) for you cause you REALLY want to talk about it with someone!"

I got my 17 year old brother to read the entire Dark-Hunter series, just so I could have someone to talk to about it.

message 43: by Anne (new)

Anne | 85 comments Just got my best friend to download Hunger Like No Other! Lol I am excited and nervous. It's her first PNR! Lol I eased her into it by having her read the Arcana Chronicles first. I'm hoping to create a new smut addict! I sound like a creepy dirty book dealer. Haha "Come on, try it... All the cool kids are reading it." Haha

message 45: by ✿ Natalie ✿ (new)

✿ Natalie ✿ | 428 comments Yep I've 'tried' over to get various friends and family to read some of the book series I enjoy (eg Dark-Hunters, Immortal's After Dark, Lords of the Underworld) so I can discuss... finally succeeded in getting one of my friends hooked on IAD by buying her A hunger like no other (she's now a big big Kresley Cole fan) and my mum reading KMM's Fever series :-) hehe. I was sooo hoping they would like them as much as me after my going on (and on) about them!

I know the feeling, Natalie. My sister hasn't gotten into the IAD books to the degree that I am. She liked the first book, but she's more of a fan fiction reader right now.

message 47: by Aura (new)

Aura (fallen_carolina) | 23 comments How do you know you're a book nerd?

You try to pre-order a book, only for Amazon to tell you that you already did.

*face palm*

I'm so glad Amazon tells you when you already bought a book. I have been burned by buying the same book twice more than I care to admit!

I have accidentally purchased books that I had already checked out and read from the library. That was before I started using Goodreads, though.
