Chris sat at a table in the lunchroom, several teachers around. They all laughed as he finished telling is story, shaking their heads. Chris grinned at them all and laughed himself as he took a bite of his ham sandwich. "I swear, girls, that's what happened. Do you really think I could make something like this up?" he asked them, giving them a fake pouty face before bursting into laughter. He noticed the kindergarten assistant teacher coming in a waved her over. "Ryan, come sit with us."

Chris chuckled and shook his head at her. "Of course," he said agreeably. He knew that she didn't really like these activities, but he didn't like seeing her sitting alone all the time. His eyes were sharp as he took in her coffee. "Hey, you want this sandwich? I made too many and it shouldn't go to waste. I'm a pretty good cook, if I do say so myself," he told her with a grin as their coworkers shook their heads at him.

He shrugged his shoulders and smiled at her. "Why not? I like being nice to people and they seem to like it as well. You seem like a nice girl, despite your attempts. I've seen how you are with the kids. The adore you." He took a drink from his cup. "And I am a good cook. Have you ever had venison? I can make a mean venison steak." He picked up the extra sandwich, still in a bag, and placed it in front of her. "Go on and eat."

He frowned at her. "A monster? I very much doubt that." He was concerned that her parents wouldn't approve. "Ryan, take the sandwich. You need to eat and if you ever need someone to talk to, you know where to find me." He looked at her kindly. "I don't think you're a monster, Ryan. You never could be, despite what you want everyone to see."

Chris put his hand out and lifted her chin. "No, you won't" he told her softly but firmly. "That sandwich is for you. Save it for later if you want, but you do need to eat." He sat back. "As for where I live, I have a small house on the edge of town, near the forest." He smiled privately at his reasoning for wanting a house there. "It's blue and white. You can't miss it." He looked down at his watch. "I have to go get my kids from P.E. But I'm being serious, Ryan. You ever need anything, come on by."
