Emma | 2089 comments Ye I am just had other things going on sorry, will get back to soon.

Drishti (drishti_ohri) | 380 comments If you're too busy, then don't worry. There's always the possibility of rescheduling the BR. :)

message 17: by Emma (new) - added it

Emma | 2089 comments No it'll be fine but thanks for the offer, it's more a constant headache that won't go away making it hard to reda. I'll try catch up later today, think i am only a couple of chapters behind.

Drishti (drishti_ohri) | 380 comments Those headaches are awful. I suffered a horrible one yesterday. And today, I had a lot of things to catch up on.

Anyway, I'll try and finish chapter-10 before going to bed. I'm keeping a slow pace of 2 chapters a day cuz there's school work and all. So, I think you can easily catch up. :-)

Emma | 2089 comments Chapter 6 (view spoiler)

Drishti (drishti_ohri) | 380 comments Yeah, the dwarves' behaviour is an interesting twist.

My God, Emma!. A 12 hours shift! I bow down to you!

Emma, I'm loving the story, too. It's a great fairytale retelling. Hope the rest is also this good. :-)

Drishti (drishti_ohri) | 380 comments I've read up to chapter-22. There's a question I forgot to ask you. What do you think about Krytal Jones' writing style?

(view spoiler)

Midnight- (view spoiler)

Wormwart- (view spoiler)

Also, one other question. Have you read some other fairytale retelling except this? This is my first one and I really want to read more of these, so I'm open to some recommendations.

message 26: by Emma (new) - added it

Emma | 2089 comments I haven't read any more yet sorry, been really busy will catch up soon. Ye I quite like the writing style. I love fairytale retellings have read a fair few, I'll have a think and try to remember which ones I enjoyed the best then recommend some.

Drishti (drishti_ohri) | 380 comments I like the writing style, too.

Except this, the only fairytale telling I have heard about is the Lunar Chronicles. So, I'm really in a desperate need if recommendations.

Emma | 2089 comments recommendations - The Ugly Stepsister (Unfinished Fairy Tales, #1) by Aya Ling cinderella- it's a little bit different from usual retellings but worth the read.

The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black it's got a slight reference to sleeping beauty but is a great book in it's own right.

Locks Rapunzel Unhinged by Sarah J. Pepper I only thought this okay, dragged a little at times.

The Asylum for Fairy Tale Creatures by Sebastian Gregory it's quite dark and gruesome but was an interesting read.

Cinderella's Dress (Cinderella's Dress, #1) by Shonna Slayton it wasn't a retelling per-se it was kind of a relative of Cinderella, was interesting all the same. Did drag a little in the middle.

The Snow Queen by Alana Albertson short but an interesting read :)

My Name Is Rapunzel by K.C. Hilton this was good, long time since I have read it, but it had a really good story from what I can remember.

The Captive Maiden (Hagenheim #4) by Melanie Dickerson it was okay, dragged a little for me and too much religion and repetition.

The Fairest of Them All by Carolyn Turgeon cannot remember much about this, other than it was good. I rated it 4 stars so must have been.

Cinderella Is Evil (Fairy Tales Retold, #1) by Jamie Campbell this whole series of short stories is really good, really makes you think. They flip the story we all know on it's head and give it a different perspective.

UnEnchanted (An Unfortunate Fairy Tale, #1) by Chanda Hahn this was a mix of fairytales really good. I am planning a reread in the next few months, there's a few of us doing a buddy read if you fancy joining.

Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine really good, the film is very different if you have seen it. But this is still worth the read.

Hope that's enough for you to be getting on with :)

Drishti (drishti_ohri) | 380 comments Thanks a lot!! I've added most of the recs to my TBR. My reading list for November and December is full, so these are gonna be one of the first books I read next year. :-)

message 30: by Emma (new) - added it

Emma | 2089 comments There might be better ones, but since these are the only ones I have read, I cannot judge. :)

message 31: by Emma (new) - added it

Emma | 2089 comments My kindle is on charge just now but should have time to catch up later today, if not def tomorrow.

Drishti (drishti_ohri) | 380 comments No problem!! The chapters are short and interesting, so it'll be easy to catch up. Chances are I'll fall behind. I've a lot of school work this weekend and a new BR, too. But, I'll try not to.

message 33: by Emma (new) - added it

Emma | 2089 comments It's fine, I am likely to get behind again anyway lol I let life get in the way too much. I am only working 8 hours on mon and tues so should get a little done then too :)

Drishti (drishti_ohri) | 380 comments The next week we have festive season here in India. It's gonna be really busy. So, really less time for reading.

message 35: by Emma (new) - added it

Emma | 2089 comments I am upto chatper 16, some really interesting ideas going on :)

Drishti (drishti_ohri) | 380 comments I told you that the chapters are interesting. It's great you think that, too. :-)

message 37: by Emma (new) - added it

Emma | 2089 comments I am up to chapter 21, that's me done for today, really anxious about starting my new job tomorrow and not sleeping well so knackered. (view spoiler)

Drishti (drishti_ohri) | 380 comments I hoped for Tristan's safety, too. Anyway, I think I should better not speak anymore about this before I let some spoilers slip through.

Drishti (drishti_ohri) | 380 comments I've finished the book.
My rating: 4 stars
It was my first fairytale retelling and I loved it. Normally, I go for something with suspense, mystery and action, but I liked this sweet and simple read, too. The action scenes were a bit graphic and the characters' deaths had little impact on me. Otherwise, the book was a great read. Highly recommended!
