Patnel | 197 comments Adult, thriller, fiction. I read this book, in English, sometime between 1996 and 2000. I believe it was written around that time. I am fairly certain that the main character is a government researcher, working directly for the President. He's trying to track down a government project to build robot, android soldiers. He does eventually find the prototype soldier, who appears to be a very naive human being. I think the analyst first came to the President's attention when he displayed his unusual analytic mind on election night, when he compared election returns to those of prior years from memory. I thought the title included 'Janus' or 'Gemini' or something like that, but I can't find anything that matches. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

We can eliminate these "super soldier" novels - Runaway Heart by Stephen J. Cannell) and The Third Twin by Ken Follett?

Patnel, are the soldiers built from any human parts/tissues?

Does the researcher/analyst have a partner? Any other main characters? Any romance?

More military thriller than science fiction?

Patnel | 197 comments First, yes we can eliminate the Cannell and Follett books. I'm sure I've never read either one, and both are to do with genetically engineered soldiers. This book was about developing android soldiers, robots who look human. No human parts/tissues whatsoever.

The researcher does end up working with a woman who does become his love interest. Nothing beyond that bare fact stands out in my memory.

I would say more conspiracy thriller than military thriller. I don't remember about military action, more running from hitmen in city streets, etc. It was shelved in the science fiction section of the library I got it from (Blue Island, Illinois), but the only sci-fi part I remember is that they built a robot. Other than that, straight conspiracy thriller.
Thanks for your help.

Deep Six (2004) by Clinton Smith?

www.worldcat.org (advanced search) = Keywords: robot military thriller | 1970-2005 | Non-Juvenile | Fiction | Book | English

Patnel | 197 comments The description is so close to what I'm thinking of, it's almost like this author read the book I'm looking for, then wrote his own version. Unfortunately, it's not my book. I was able to read a chunk of it on google books, and it is definitely not it. But thank you for your help.

Patnel | 197 comments Update: I remembered that the project lost one of the android/robot soldiers. For some reason, they didn't have photos of him, and they were trying to identify him using the Bertillon system (measurements of every part of a person's body). They measured the main character, suspecting he might be a robot.
Thanks

I added some details to the header/topic title. You can update it by clicking the small "edit" link after the header. This only works on the full Desktop website - not the Mobile website or app. (On the Mobile website, click the "Desktop version" link at the bottom of the page.)

New keywords mentioned: "Bertillon system".

How far into the book do you learn about the android/ robot soldiers? What are the first signs or stories about the conspiracy?

Patnel | 197 comments Maybe halfway? I think the researcher is taken prisoner because he is believed to be the android, and once he escapes (no idea how), things go from there.
