Hello, Abhishek. Welcome to the History book club!We are a very diverse group of people with common love for history so we are very glad to have you here.
Based on your introduction, I suggest you check out our thread on Military history: You can access it through this link:
MIlitary history
I suggest you also check out our homepage and see what else we have to offer. You can access it through this link:

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the comment box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.
When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

Hello, My name is Michael Gordon Bennett. I inherited my love of history from my father. I've been fortunate to travel the world thanks to my father's Air Force career, starting in Madrid, Spain when I was just 5 years old. I've traveled to more countries than I can list here, thanks to dad, and my years running part of The Travel Channel. I currently live in Las Vegas. I have a degree in journalism and write for several blogs including The Huffington Post. Thanks for having me.
Hello. I'm not good at introductions so I'll keep this very brief. I'm James and I live in the US. I'm mainly interested in modern history, because I just find it easier to relate to. I love reading about the World Wars, and the 20th century in general. I've also recently taken an interest in the American Civil War. Well that's about it for me.
Hello, Michael. Welcome to the History book club! You must have seen wonderful things on your travels and with that kind of experience I'm sure you will be a great contributor to this group.
I suggest you to check out our homepage and see if you can find anything of interest. You can access it through this link:

Hello, everyone! Of the 18 grandchildren, I was the only one who would sit at my grandfather's feet and ask him questions about his past, particularly his time spent in WWII. I love learning about history, and hearing stories from those who have the most of it... people who lived during the Great Depression, WWI, WWII and more...
With regards to historical novels, Tai-pan, by James Clavell, is one of my favorite epic novels, as well as The Good Earth by Pearl Buck. Reading, writing, running and skipping off to the beach in those moments in between, are what make me the happiest in this world.
My name is Robert Hamlin and I joined Goodreads a year ago on a friend's suggestion. Only in the last couple of months have I spent much time on the site. History was a dreaded course in my school years, but no longer. Maybe the lack of interest I had was the emphasis on memorizing battles and the names of generals, but most everything about history interests me now. It is such a fine privilege to have good enough eyesight to read, and a handy little gadget (a laptop) to access "everything I always wanted to know but was afraid to ask." I have called several locales along the Atlantic coast my home, and am sort of retired in South Carolina for the past nine years now. Looking ahead to learn more about the world we live in, people, places, and things here in the HBC.
Hello everyone,My name is Maryann and I'm also a history addict. I love all kinds of history. I especially enjoy biographies of historical figures. I also love keeping lists, which is why I joined Goodreads.
I'm currently reading:

Hello! My name is Brett. I live in the US and I am a high school history teacher. I actually joined the group back when it was private, but I left because I was unable to put in the time ( I was in school at the time). But I have graduated and I have a bit more time now. :) I love medieval and Renaissance history, inter-war period stuff, imperialism, WWI and II, women's history, civil rights issues, history of medicine and disease, ancient history, and recently I have been getting into African and Latin American history.
John wrote: "Brett, what aspects of WWI and II are you interested in?"Russia especially in WWII. I feel like they do not get enough credit for WWII. I also like learning about all the art that was stolen in WWII. For WWI I like studying about how it started and ended, and how it was so different from anything they had seen or experienced and how it effected the war and it the outcome.
A special welcome to James! Since you have such a great interest in the World Wars and the American Civil War - we would like to recommend the following folders: The First World War

Hello everyone,I have always been a huge history fan, but spent some years without much reading for fun. Recently, I have gotten back into reading and am excited to make up for lost time. I have a Bachelors in History and a Masters in Linguistics and enjoy reading books related to those areas, but also enjoy many different types of books. My favorite period of history is the period of the Tudors in England. Glad to be here!

Hello, My name is Ian. I live in Southern California in the United States. I am most interested in the history of Ancient Greece and Rome. I find the basic political and social trends in these more simple ancient societies are easier to disentangle than in modern societies. I am most interested in topics related to "the few and the many" and the interaction of political/economic/military trends. I'm glad to have learned about this group and enjoy the posts.
Regards!

So glad you joined us Ian and Kate. It is a great club with good discussions and book recommendations......please join right in.
My name is Arthur and I'm an American (although I currently live in Italy). I am a physician by profession, but have always had a strong interest in history. My particular interests lie in revolutionary (American, French, and Russian) and Church (RC) history, however I find the majority of historical pursuits enlightening and enjoyable. Some of my favorite historians would be Russell Kirk, Christopher Dawson, and Hilaire Belloc. Lastly, I love reading historical fiction and count Brothers Karamazov, Les Miserables, Tale of Two Cities and the Count of Monte Cristo among my favorite books to read, along with novels by Louis de Wohl. Thanks!

Hi, my name is Rachel. I live in the U.S. I am 33 years old. I am going to school, but currently on break now, but I am aiming to get my Bachelors in History. I hope one day to work as an archivist. I love history and reading. I like reading about different people, places, and time periods. I am especially interested in English history. Tudors, Stuarts, Plantagenet's, etc. I am also a big fan of the civil war & WWII as well. Though I have interest in these era's......I like to branch and learn new things as well. And meet new people who are just as passionate about history as I am :)

Hi, my name is Ally and I've just recently joined this group. I am from Melbourne Australia and work as a flight attendant. I love reading especially non fiction. I have a particular interest in psychology, philosophy and history. In particular I am very interested in ancient civilizations, dark ages, renanaisance monarchy esp Great Britain and quite a lot more. I have read a number of books and look forward to reading and sharing so much more. Thanks for the welcome.
Hello,I am Jeanne. Born and raised in Saint Paul MN. Interested in all types of history. Special interests in local (Minnesota) history and ancient history.
Hi, I am Mursalin. I am interested in East European History, Cold War, History of Medicine and history of other physical and biological sciences (though very few people will share this interest with me perhaps, if anyone is interested I will be glad to join a conversation.)
Another topic which I find very engaging is the Partition of India in 1947. Other sub-continental topics like the Mughals or the British rule will keep me busy for days in long summer holidays.

Great topics there. Welcome from a new recruit also Mursalin.
Hi I have an ambition to start from the beginning of History and read in chronological order to the present time. A massive list to do and being in my fifties and working full time here in the UK this may be a lifetime's work. It should be fun and any help from the group appreciated. I have Gilgamesh to start in the New Year.
So glad you joined us Ally, Jeanne, Mursalin, Bookwormwisewoman and Trish. We are truly an international history book club and you will meet and interact with many of our great membership. Please join in our book discussions/recommendations.
Hello!I'm Kenmuel, a second year law student. I've joined your History Group with grand enthusiasm and a great crave of learning history matters. As a law student, history it's very important for me. I deeply care about subjects like minorities, racial equality, American history regarding politics and constitutional development, of course international relations.
I hope to find the best book tittles here, so I can learn the most.
I'm currently reading "The case against the Supreme Court" by Erwin Chemerinsky and so far has been a good book.
PS. English it's not, by any means, my first language. So pardon my errors! :)
Hey everybody! My name is Caitlin I live in Michigan in the USA. Right now I read fiction books, but I started to listen to a few history podcasts and I really want to start getting my teeth into the actual books. Truth be told I don't know where to start.I felt like this group would help a lot because of how widespread the members are and the book choices do not just focus on one area's history.
Hello! My name is Sharon, and I am from California, USA. To be honest, history was my least favorite subject in school. But as I went through graduate school, traveled to different parts of the world, and now working as a full-time professional, I realized how important history is. Like George Santayana once said, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." I don't want to sound silly in a conversation or make bad decisions in life and work simply because of my lack of knowledge in history. I did not read much history books (non-fictions) in the past and I do not know much history, and that's why I'm here. I hope this group can provide some guidance as I go through my journey of history self-study, and that the historians / history buffs here can give me some recommendations on good and worth reading history books.
My subject of interest can be anything: sports, pop culture, movies, music, arts, biographies or autobiographies of leaders and famous people, etc.
Thank you very much!
Hi Everyone! My name is Aaron, and I live in Columbus, Georgia, United States. I love 19th century New York City history, Walt Whitman, body snatchers, anatomical dissection, Tammany Hall, Five Points, etc. I'm 43, and I teach and write at a local university. I'm excited to get involved.
Best,
Aaron

Hello! Name's Sam, some friends call me "Mo". I joined Goodreads recently just to track what I was reading and decided it might be fun to join a group or two, and I love me some history. For a long time I was obsessed with the Second World War, but now I enjoy mostly ancient civilizations and pre-medieval cultures. Namely, I have a fascination with Sargon of Akkad, as well as Celtic culture and the Vikings. The Samurai are another curious interest of mine. Happy to be here and look forward to interacting with everyone!
