I worked as a museum curator for 2 years, as well as a museum docent and a volunteer archivist. Greetings! I'm Eduardo, 63 and a avid reader since I can remember. I love history and biography, and while I also enjoy good historical fiction, I keep them well distanced, for as a result of this love of history I deplore when fiction is tried to pass as fact.
History and biography are presently at their best moment in time, with so many good authors who narrate them in ways that grip our interest. A well written history or biography can be a page turner and, to me, reading one such work is time well spent.
I hope that being part of this group will help me find more wonderful books to read.

Hi, my name is Ronen.
I enjoy reading history of all types and time periods with special interest in ancient history, specifically ancient Rome. I am looking to learn more about ancient Eastern history and more ancient near East history, specifically ancient Eastern literature, but anything to do with history of some sort be in anthropology, sociology, archeology, philosophy and the sciences interest me. I love the way that all the disciplines can and should be integrated into the study of history and that a pure history of political happenings is too incomplete of a picture of how a society functioned.

Hello! I'm Amy. I've only very recently begun reading from the History section of the library. I'm currently reading The Family Romanov: Murder, Rebellion, and the Fall of Imperial Russia by Candace Flemming (kinda for a paper, but it's an enjoyable read).
I'm generally interested in most history, but I've currently been interested with reading more about: Russian History, American Revolution and Civil War (kinda) period, and maybe some military/war history.

Hello, I am not new to this website, however have not used it much. But I am beginning to explore the community groups of this great website. As I am interested in History, I felt that this was the right group to join and introduce myself.

My name is Costa (22 y/o), no I do not hate Starbucks (haha), and I live in the U.K. I have always loved history, growing up watching documentaries, reading small historical information online, and generally being interested in war movies/battles etc.

Growing up I also loved reading, however have never read a history book until the last few months (have no idea why, but just used to read spy books growing up), so feel now is the right time to read history and delve into the many interesting books. I just finished by Martin Middlebrook (hopefully I have added it correctly!

I have just ordered by ] Robert K. Massiewhich I cannot wait to read! I find the last Tsar's really interesting, having readbits online, watched documentaries etc. Apologies if this is too long!

Hello. I am excited to be part of this group! I'm a high school English teacher and a lover of sports, especially basketball. Not surprisingly, my favorite history books are sports-related: Boys in the Boat tops that list. I think Doris Kearns Goodwin's best book, in fact, was Wait Until Next Year, her memoir about growing up in Brooklyn when the Dodgers still called it home.
That said, I'm into politics too, as well as historical fiction.
I am intrigued by the idea of reading about Ireland's history, since my ancestors are from the Emerald Isle. I might start with Paddy on the Hardwood: A Journey of Irish Hoops (I told you I was a basketball buff, right?)
Again, glad I found this group and will be looking forward to reading about what you all are reading.

My name is Julia. I am from Dallas, TX. In addition to being a life long reader, I am also a gamer and a cine-file. In particular I am interested in political history, and have been enjoying Mike Duncan's Revolutions podcast for a year now. www.revolutionspodcast.com I have also just finished this book about Catherine the Great. : Catherine the Great: Portrait of a Woman I appreciate how the biographer placed her reign in the broad scope history in addition to the details of her motives. Currently waiting on Napoleon: A Life to become available at my library. Looking forward to learning more!

Hello, I'm Gorydesu, currently a resident in Germany. I like traveling and usually combine it with reading the history of the places I'm visiting. My long-standing interest is the history of Japan though. I used to live there and my experience left me with the fascination of the country. Recently I also got interested in the world history. I recently finished Sapiens and some time before that Why the west rules - for now. I'm glad to find this group!

Hi there,
My name is Sandra and I love to read about historical events, particular with regard to American history. I like to look at contemporary issues and try to figure out what historical events played a part.

World War II is one piece of American history that I have enjoyed learning about. There are pieces of that war that are still unraveling, it seems.

My latest intrigue is about Hawai'i - how the kingdom of Hawai'i was quietly overthrown. I will be spending some time this summer on Oahu, researching and talking with some folks and I can't wait.

I'm glad I found this group and I'm looking forward to finding a sub-group to join to share thoughts about a current read.

Hi everyone.

I have been in many of the HBC discussions ever since I joined Goodreads, and keep returning to the HBC for the great high-level discussions. I just realize that I have never Introduced myself properly, so here goes:

I am Danish and a social anthropologist by training, educated in Copenhagen, Brighton (UK) and Oslo. My interest in anthropology comes partly from growing up in South Asia, where my Dad worked in development (Fish Culture). I have spent a long time in Bangladesh, Nepal, North India and Sri Lanka. I worked in Sri Lanka with humanitarian aid for a number of years.

I currently live in Ribe and Copenhagen, Denmark with my 13 year old daughter. I spend a lot of time reading and listening to audio books too, reading both fiction and non-fiction, including Nordic, European and South Asian history, anthropology, political theory, and fiction. I have a long time interest in post-colonial literature and literature exploring global dynamics in our changing world, Lately, my geographical interest has been widening.

I have found the discussions in the HBC really fascinating and challenging me to explore new areas. Thank you so much for investing so much in the discussions in this group! I am really reading it with interest.
